I completely remove the factory paint from the doll and then repaint the face to more closely resemble the actor that the doll was supposed to portray. I discovered this art form in January of 2010 and have been doing it ever since! Thanks for looking! http://www.hook-design.com/LOTR_treble.jpg
Thanks, Illusue

...how much detail you're able to put into them! Arwen's soft and perfect features, the detail of Aragorn, and Legolas's complete transformation is jaw dropping.

The Legolas was from a Will Turner doll from POTC, so he was a complete do-over. I posted a few more pix of his OOAK outfit and equipment. http://www.hook-design.com/Legolas.html

Arwen is PERFECT!!!!!!!!!!! These are GREAT! You have a gift, totally! Totally blew me away. What kind of dolls are these? Barbies? Have you thought about reselling these? It's great!
It's Latin. Loosely translated, it means... we cheat. "Strange treasures in this fair world appear, strange all, and new to me." That is a poem by Thomas Traherne and I have absolutely no idea what it's about. But, when I was small I was made to learn it by heart so I don't see why you shouldn't suffer too.

Your attention to detail is impressive. Those dolls are a joy to look at - very realistic and amazingly well done. Welcome!

I cannot tell for sure, but noeling there does the same thing. It's great to see such pieces come through my tolkien group there. Whether you are or not, your re-paintings look simply fantastic! What a wonderful art form.

Noeling is my idol in this field. He is the first repainter I came across when I started this art form and I said to myself "that's what I want to do!" He's been doing it for 10 years and I just started in January of 2010. So thanks again.

I especially like how you converted the Will Turner doll into Legolas! Did you make the costume, too?

I made the costume, vambraces, quiver, belting and buckles while my hubby made the arrows (with real yellow and brown feather fletches), the twin blades and his bow. There's a url in one of my earlier posts (which for some reason, I cant make into a link) to a full picture of him.

those are really incredible you are just so talented, they look exactly the same as the actors! I really hope we get to see more of these from you!
You know you're cool when... -You have a nerd-spasm just because you walk by your Lord of the Rings Extended Edition DVDs. -You cry at the end of return of the king even though you've seen it about 13 times. -You check TOR.n for updates when you should be doing your geography project. -You would rather have Richard Taylor's autograph than Merryl Streep's. -You doodle Treebeard in the margins of your math homework. -Everything you say, or anyone else for that matter, relates to LotR even if it only makes sense to you.-by Gimli'sBox But if that's what I'm like... well than too bad for normal people!

This is really amazing, and I'm trying to figure out what type of paints you use. My guess would be acrylic, but if I'm wrong, I'd love to know what paint you're using to get these results, if you don't mind telling us. Thanks! WB
