Next Monday in New Zealand.... Can't Post

is Labour Day. http://www.labourday.org.nz/
"Remember that Labour Day is a celebration of unions, and working people sticking together for fairness. Labour Day celebrates workers joining together and asking for fair working conditions and fair pay for a dayís work. There are still many victories that need to be won, but it is useful to remember the many union achievements by working people over the 165 years of New Zealand history since Samuel Parnell won an eight-hour day for working Kiwis."

Appropriate, though, [In reply to] Can't Post

for the film workers to show people power with the pro-Hobbit rallies on Monday. And the unions have done a lot for pay and conditions over the decades - this latest mess is more about the MEAA/NZEA leadership than unions in general.

About those Monday rallies ...

* 12.30pm-2pm tomorrow
* Auckland: Queen Elizabeth II Square (opposite Britomart) Wellington: Civic Square
* Christchurch: Cathedral Square
* Hamilton: Garden Place
* Matamata: The Gollum statue
* Queenstown: The Village Green

... can I just say that I *love* that we have a Gollum statue somewhere in NZ? :D

Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..."
Dwarves: "Pretty rings..."
Men: "Pretty rings..."
Sauron: "Mine's better."

"Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauronís master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded b*****d with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak.
