Brian Blessed WOULD BE PERFECT for the role of Thorin. When I was reading the book a long time ago, I had him on my mind all the time. Prince Vultan rules!!!!

Martin Freeman is Bilbo from the main page per Simon Pegg

I believe I would bet $500 that Martin Freeman is the next Bilbo Baggins. Anyways no need for a question mark on the headline Simon Pegg just outed him point blank. Curious it wasn't put on the message board, maybe they wanted it here?

Clancy Brown? I disagree. (respectfully of course)

From the way the book describes Smaug, I've always imagined him having a very charming, insidious, maybe even seductive voice. Clancy doesn't pull that off.

...I started reading the article assuming that Pegg was taking the mickey, but it's stated as a matter of fact in the piece. Who knows? If they're friends, it's possible Pegg is in on the secret.

At the same time we've heard they have been auditioning back-up choices (unknowns) if Freeman wouldn't make it.

Clearly the hardest to cast. GDT said he will develope all thirteen reasonably much but I have my doubts of how that will work. I wonder if Bifur, Bofur, Dwalin etc will be seen as extras and just "follow along".

It only takes a couple of good lines to establish a character even if they remain primarily in the background.

He played an evil scientist in the classic Crash Bandicoot games and his voice there sounds completely different to his usual work. I don't think there's any role he couldn't pull off.

Here's is his tweet: "Woah, woah, woah I did NOT confirm Martin Freeman was in The Hobbit. As far as I know, talks are ongoing. Hope he is. Great choice"
Maybe Guillermo was meant to just write the hobbit and PJ was meant to direct it. And that is an encouraging thought.

Damage control, perhaps? I think Pegg may have let slip more than he meant to in his previous tweet and now he's trying to cover it up...

And I'm sure others have shared this idea. What if Smaug's voice was a fusion of a male and female voice - like the Angel of Death in Hellboy 2? It would give Smaug an otherwordly, inhuman, and almost androgynous voice.

I always imagined Hugh Jackman as Bard, with the dark hair, kind of a rugged Leopold from Kate and Leopold. But Clancy would pull off a pretty impressive Bard!!!

Also caught this "Also looking likely is James Nesbitt, who, according to Pajiba’s Twitter feed, has already being offered a role - that of Bofur, one of the three dwarfs who accompany Bilbo on his quest. " Good research!
