*Does happy dance all round the house* I'm just happy we'll get to see them, I honestly thought the films wouldn't happen, so this is a great relief, and a great joy!

Finally. YEY!!!!!!! I was beginning to think that these films would be in perpetual pre-pre-production!!!!!! *runs out of the room screaming the house down*

... or at least that's exactly true as far as I am concerned, and I did have a feeling that it was so for a number of others too, so I'm glad you put it all up in this post!...

I've got a very nice hole, of course, but still, one must go on sudden unexpected adventures from time to time, and an official greenlight for The Hobbit is a pretty good reason. On a side note: Wow. I haven't logged in here in years and was shocked that my old account was still active. I'm surprised it wasn't deleted years ago.

I went back and had a look at some of my posts in the 'What Say You' Thread discussions - this was prior to GdT taking on the role of Director, but it had just been reported and looked as if it was possible he might Direct - the post date: Jan 29 2008
Q: Do you think there is a chance or change - that Peter will direct the Hobbit or the other film? Elven: Yes, I think there will be a change - and unexpected change at that - almost Peter taking the reins by default - though that wouldn't be a bad move closer to the movies becoming a reality, even if they have started filming ... I think it woulld even start with the script ... but Peter steps in to save the day ... we all love a hero who can do that, and he is capable and in the position presently to do that ... but not just yet. I dont think things will go as planned if Del Toro is confirmed as Director. Q: If you believe it to be true - what do you feel Del Toro will bring to the Hobbit? Elven: Hold-ups. I dont think this guy has the luck on his side down the line. Some of this I think relates to timing ... it going to be long overdrawn and there will be difficulties around the making of this movie ... expect the unexpected and irreversable to happen - and I think its out of the hands of anyone to change it ... Q: Are you happy with this choice? Elven: as theres no choice yet made, its hard to say - but in essence - No. But thats not to say the right choices wont be made in the long run ... Q: What are your other thoughts on this current report? Elven: This seems to be swift decision making - a hopeful new prospect like Del Toro mixed with much antisipation and anxiety. and I have to say I feel there is some reluctance by Del Toro around this step - (even though there are no reports) with the direction of who is to direct - even if it is confirmed - expectations and all that ... and Im not sure presently if what is being asked of Del Toro is as clear cut as its made out to be - Director ... (title yes, but as for whats expected - no) or exactly what he feels he can bring to the plate himself - . If I said there is a political element involved here, I not sure Id be speculating too far from the truth, but it has to do with skill and creativity, and im sure that these two elements are going to clash at some point ... or one will try to over-ride the other, but these seem only to be half the story - the whole deal would seem very tempting and I think there would be a definite attraction to having a name like his linked to these films ... but Im still feeling that Del Toro will not hold the reins for long ... if this comes through .. I know there is also a post I wrote about the 'new technology' which would be available at the time the Hobbit comes out - Im still searching for the post - around 2007 - but Im just thrilled as punch that this is how it is evolving now. I wish I'd put a wager on this now ... LOL

Nice to have the green light - its been far to long coming.. Would like to see the next big announcements - like Martin Freeman as Bilbo and they will shoot some scenens in England to accommodate Christopher Lee... Tow things are bitter sweet - One : We'll never get Del Toro's vision - I for one really wanted another director. I love Peter and I love the LOTR but I thought it would be great to see another vision on middle earth.. Two : I wish it didnt have to be in 3D - plain and simple !

Thanks for this bit of info. I would think we can all get on now with our rejoicing about the greenlight and PJ--Guillermo seems to be fine with all of this. And we got PJ--we could have gotten Sam Raimi or someone else!

You are right. He has a strong sense of self character and knows exactly whats happening .... He will get his due rewards when the Hobbit grabs some golden gongs for the scripting. His mark is firmly planted in the Shire Great that you spoke with him - thats awesome! Cheers Elven
