What do y'all think about an intro thread? Can't Post

Eventually, we're going to get true newbies, and it would be great to have a welcome and intro thread to get to know them. We might even want to get to know each other. Evil

`Are these magic cloaks?' asked Pippin, looking at them with wonder.
`I do not know what you mean by that,' answered the leader of the Elves.

Why not go ahead and post one? As long as people contribute to it, it will be on the first page. Heck, someone might even decide to sticky it!

I've thought of that [In reply to] Can't Post

I think it's a good idea, actually. I didn't want to set up an entire new forum for it, but perhaps a permanent sticky thread somewhere.

Now *I* want feedback Evil... would it be better on Main of Off-topic?

I would say Main.

More visible that way, right off, to newbies.

Technically, Off-Topic, but since most new users will go to Main, first, can we have a stickie on Main that links the newbies to the Off-Topic thread?

Good idea [In reply to] Can't Post

We can have a sticky on Main; indeed, you can have a sticky on *every* thread that links to the off-topic thread, so whatever thread a Newbie wanders into, they will find it sooner rather than later. *g* And, of course, a link in the 101... or whatever it is called now XD

I'd go for in the 'Welcome' forum. But thats just me Smile If people are looking to say hello in one giant thread that'd be a logical place. At least to me.

To me it seems odd in a Tolkien on topic or an OT area.

''Pooh!'' he whispered.
''Yes, Piglet?''
''Nothing,'' said Piglet, taking Pooh's paw. ''I just wanted to be sure of you.''

Sticky thread [In reply to] Can't Post

A sticky thread, is, well, a thread that sticks at the top ^^ If you notice, when someone makes a new thread/topic, the rest of the old threads move down. Sticky threads always stay on top above the rest of the threads, so that's always the first thing you'll see when you go into one of the side forums. You can tell it's a sticky because it says so and it doesn't move down *g*
