I scream, you scream, Can't Post

We all scream for ice cream -- or do we? Smile

There was a little debate in Fiesta this week about which flavor of ice cream is best in a root beer float, and that made me curious about ice cream flavors (in general, not only in root beer floats Wink ). Whether in a cone or a dish, with or without toppings and/or sprinkles, when you scream for ice cream, which flavor do you go for? Multiple answers allowed -- after all, sometimes just one flavor isn't enough.

As for me, it's French Vanilla all the way, topped with hot fudge sauce. Maybe some whipped cream. And a cherry. Wink

Yum! [In reply to] Can't Post

I love ice cream, but not all flavors. OhioHobbit likes pumpkin ice cream, but I only want my pumpkin in a pie, not in ice cream! Pretty much, if it is chocolate, I like it. I guess chocolate mint is my favorite, but NOT with rootbeer. For a rootbeer float -- vanilla!

Ah, a sub-poll! :-) [In reply to] Can't Post

What to put in root beer floats: Vanilla or chocolate? I'm with you, only vanilla in the floats.

Pumpkin ice cream? Never would have thought of that one.

well, chocolate is one obviously [In reply to] Can't Post

other than that, I love coconut ice cream (making sure it has actual shredded coconut in it of course)
and black walnut (maple walnut is good too, but a bit too sweet)

of course the best ice cream comes from the Grand Ole Creamery in St. Paul, MN *drools*

Now you've piqued my interest. What intriguing names those are. You'll have to tell me what those flavors are -- after all, I may never get to NZ! Wink

There's another flavor I never considered! Sounds yummy!

I have a friend who lives in Minneapolis, I'll have to get her to take me to that Grand Ole Creamery next time I go for a visit. Thanks for the recommendation! Smile

Lots of people say "YECH!:" to choc'lit ice-cream in root beer floats... [In reply to] Can't Post

UNTIL they actually TRY one! Even I, choc-o-holic that I am, was skeptical at first. But it IS good! But honestly, any float is a yummy float and I'd even try pun'kin icey-creamy in a float (the stuff by itself is pretty good).

Hokey pokey [In reply to] Can't Post

is hard to explain. It's a hard confection that's gold in colour, which TipTop breaks into small pieces and mixes into vanilla icecream. It is really, really nice.

Jelly-tip is hard chocolate pieces and swirls of sweet raspberry jelly mixed into vanilla icecream. Criminally good.

I just checked the TipTop site and their three biggest sellers are:
  1. Cookies n Cream
  2. Vanilla
  3. Hokey Pokey
  4. Goody Goody Gum Drops
  5. French Vanilla

Tutti-frutti [In reply to] Can't Post

That's one I haven't seen in a long time. I never did like it, though, so maybe that's why it slipped my mind. Tongue

I'll have to take your suggestion and try chocolate ice cream in a root beer float, just for curiosity's sake. Who knows, I just might like it. Wink

I've never tried a root beer float with chocolate ice cream before [In reply to] Can't Post

though I've wanted to
I just don't have rootbeer floats that often and there isn't always plain chocolate icecream around

Also good are cream soda floats

Jelly-tip [In reply to] Can't Post

That sounds absolutely yummy! I love vanilla ice cream, and I love raspberry, so the two of them together would be heavenly -- especially with a little chocolate thrown in for good measure. Wink

If I ever do get to NZ, I'll definitely give this a try. Thanks for the heads-up!

Agreed! [In reply to] Can't Post

Though because of the very nature of cream soda the very best is vanilla-bean vanilla with it. 2nd place with cream soda is any berry variety of ice-cream at all (I recommend blackberry! YUM!) Tongue

Ben & Jerry's Coffee Heath Bar [In reply to] Can't Post

I love it, and have to stay away from it, it's too addictive!

But for Root Beer Floats? Chocolate chip! I love spooning out the soggy little bits after slurping away the soda.

Ooh, Ben & Jerry's [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm partial to their 'Half-Baked' flavor myself, but it's so expensive it's a rare treat.

Chocolate chip? That's a good compromise for the float, you get the vanilla ice cream, and yet a hit of chocolate as well -- pretty much like the 'Half-Baked' flavor I just mentioned. Good choice! Smile

Depends on my mood [In reply to] Can't Post

sometimes, but I'll eat pretty much any flavor.
I like plain vanilla and the funkier ones like bittersweet, pistachio, licorice, grapenut...and the ones in between! I had peanut butter last week, and banana was the "special" today. And we don't need to discuss all the flavors currently in my freezer. The Southern Lemon Pie will meet its doom shortly, though... I love the seasonal flavors, too, but Peppermint Stick is best when the candy bits are still crunchy.
