Moot in DC when King Lear (with Sir Ian McKellan!) Comes to Town??

Sometime later this year, Sir Ian McKellan will star in King Lear in the states, including in Washington, DC. I'm trying to find out when he'll be there. But when he comes, should we try to have a moot around seeing King Lear? He'll be amazing, and I know I can't go to England to see him...

Just kidding - I think sibs should definitely get together to see Sir Ian as Lear. I'm going in June to see the matinee of 'The Seagull' and the evening show of 'Lear' in Stratford - so I get to see both his performances! I saw him when he was in panto at the Old Vic, too. I used to work in props for the RSC and still have a few friends backstage so I might even see if I can worm my way backstage to meet him - either that or go to the pub where I know all the actors hang out and hope to run into him! Hope you get to go - it will definitely be worth it!

I'm all the way on the 'other' coast so I couldn't attend but it looks like he'll be in L.A. in late October!! I'll have to check that out when a theatre is announced.

In Minneapolis too, although their website does not reflect this. Has anyone heard any more news about the tour? I would very much be interested in seeing it, and it would be fun to meet any Minnesota area 'sibs too. The Star Tribune says as of March 19th that LA and NY are the only other stops. Hmmmm. Very curious. Any other Minnesotans out there that are closer to the metro area that have heard news?

I've seen more info about Minneapolis than the other two stops - no clue about the dates in New York or Washington. I hope Washington isn't an error. It's only about a 4 hour drive and I can usually get free crash space in the area.

The information was revealed in an article in the StarTribune. You'll need to register to read it but the I copied out all the pertinent information and sent it to spymaster so you won't find anything in the article on the Strib's site that wasn't on the home page here. I'll try to watch out for anything else and let you know in this thread if I find it. There are four TORnsibs in the Minneapolis area that I know of. One lives a few hours out of town, the other in a suburb (Hobbitlove nee HobbitLoveR*M-e and Hob's hub, ordinaryHobbit) and I am a City Southie. There are sibs in Wisconsin and the Chicago area, as well. If anyone is considering coming to Minneapolis from a ways away... they might also consider side trips to Marquette University for their Tolkien Collection (although I'm not sure how available it is... one should definitely check into that before dropping by) and/or the Wade Center at Wheaton College which has Tolkien's desk (along with C.S. Lewis' wardrobe and writing desk and Pauline Baynes' original map of Narnia) and an archivist who's a big Tolkien fan.

I've been to Milwaukee several times to visit a friend in the last couple of years, and am very disappointed I've never been able to make it to Marquette. Someday. Good to hear about 'sibs in the area. I live about 2 hours out of the metro area. Looking forward to hearing more about the tour.

According to information here and on his website, the three cities are NY, Minneapolis, and LA. They will then travel to the U.S., where they will play at Brooklyn Academy of Music’s Harvey Theatre in New York City from 6-30 September, the Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis (5-14 October), and UCLA’s Royce Hall in Los Angeles (19-28 October). Darn, since DC is only 3 hours from me... a.s.

is still quite a trek for us on the northern edge of the West Coast. Why can't they come to Seattle? It's a huge town for theater - more live theaters here than in LA or SF, believe it or not - only NY beats it!
