to all of you....hope you all have a great long weekend........us Canadians celebrated ours last weekend. Victoria is May 24th, celebrating the birthday of Queen Victoria. More commonly known up here as May Two-Four weekend. Usually means cottages and two-fours of beer. Its the first long weekend of the summer up here. Luckily enough, I had a five day weekend last weekend. Weather was fantastic. Best May Two-Four weather-wise we've had in a good five years. We were at our cottage on Buck Lake, which is about 20 minutes north of Kingston, Ontario and about an hour forty-five minutes south of Ottawa. My family is coming from just outside of Toronto, which means its about a 2 hour drive east for us along the Trans-Canada Highway......Just a gorgeous weekend on the water. We had 20 people up there at one point for a night or two. And yes, there were several two-fours consumed over the weekend! Eucre tournament also. A bit of texas hold-em, some trivia, some monopoly all outside. Fire pit was in use all weekend...tons of fishing and swimming. Company wasn't bad either. Anyway, this weekend is a normal weekend for us. One of my gf's nephews has his fifth birthday party on Saturday, and then off to the big smoke of Toronto on Sunday for a Blue Jays - Baltimore Orioles baseball game in the afternoon. Hopefully the dome is open and we can bask in the sun, have a $12 beer or two and watch the young-gun Jays defeat a divisional rival. Again, to all you having a long weekend this weekend, have a good one, have a safe one.
What's the matter, James? No glib remark? No pithy comeback?"

I think this is the first time I'm not late! Just a nice cold ice water for me today. I wanted to quickly drop in and let everyone know I'm still here -- this has been one CRAZY week! Happy Memorial Day to all of you US TORnadoes! Up here in the Great White North, we had our long weekend (Victoria Day) last weekend. I spent it sewing with my daughter (again!) My daughter has her big Cosplay convention this weekend, so I'll have a bunch of her friends over all weekend - they should all be here in about 2 hours. My job is to feed them, help them with their costumes, drive them to the convention, pick them up from the convention, listen to all their great stories/adventures, feed them some more, provide them with a place to sleep, feed them more, help them with their costumes, drive them to the convention, pick them up from the convention, listen to all their great stories/adventures, feed them some more, provide them with a place to sleep, feed them some more, help them with their costumes, drive them to the convention, pick them up from the convention, listen to all their great stories/adventures, and then take them all to their respective homes. Phew! Cosplay Mom is a busy girl! Somewhere in there, I plan to spend some quality time with my comical side kick and partner in crime - maybe we might even go on a date! How exciting! I might get some gardening done as well. One can only hope! Have a great one!
Cheers!

My 18-year-old daughter has raduated from high school (home schooled), prepped to go off to college in August, and goe to California to work at the inlaw family business to sock away some cash, and learn about working for a living. Man (and Wo-man to those that are easily offended by meaningless verbalizations), do I feel old.

not five-oh...fifth...just 5....he's just a wee little guy and can't hold his booze....I'll probably buy him a beer, hand him a stogie and push him in the pool. The O's aren't doing that well....last in the division, but that is a division with the Yankees and Red Sox. And the Tampa Bay Rays who are off to a huge start, and of course the Blue Jays. Who are having a really hot start as well. So the O's are probably not a bad team in the end, just having to compete with Evil Empire #1a (Yankees), Evil Empire #1b (Red Sox), and two teams that are smoking hot right now is tough to do. I'm kidding by the way, about the five year old drinking and smoking....not so much about the pushing him in the pool thing though. He deserves it...never, ever shares his G.I. Joe toys with me. Yep, pool it is. He won't even see it coming.....bwahahahahahahahahahhahahaAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAAA....heh.

That's what Uncle Baggins' grandparents taught him to do as a boy on Memorial Day. We may not go on the actual day, but we generally take one day to drive all over northern Colorado and leave flowers on the graves of our ancestors. There are several of them in various towns around here. Then we take another day to go up to Rocky Mountain National Park and scatter flower petals in the Big Thompson River, from a place we call Grandfather Bridge, where we've scattered the ashes of my ancestors for generations. The ashes of my great-grandparents, grandparents, uncle and mother are there. It's a sweet family tradition. Here's a photo of my mom and me scattering flower petals on Memorial Day a few years ago. Last year we scattered her ashes there. Hope you and BG have a wonderful picnic!

I'll have a soda - still supposed to be be *ahem!* working - it will end up a little more festive in about 2 1/2 hours for me! Three days off to visit the in-laws on the big lake for sun and fun and a lot of doing very little if I can get away with it! Sunday is the only day I have to do anything - Church - and then I may also find a little time to putter amongst my flowers! Happy Memorial Day to everyone and don't forget to hug a service member to thank them for their sacrifice! {{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{GAndyalf}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}

I used to go to my dad's grave every year. Sometimes on the 24th, the anniversary of his passing, sometimes on my b-day, the anniversary of his internment, sometimes on Memorial Day. I've missed that since moving here so far from any relatives. Gives one a nuance to the perspective of immigrants.

I'd love to hear about the daisies! It's a very genteel man who likes daisies - I think they tend to be underappreciated! My roses are trying to take over my tiny yard - they vy with the mints of all kind - cat mint, peppermint, kentucky mint, spearmint (I got into mint not realizing it was so vigorous!) and a single peony I doubt will actually ever bloom - carnations as they are my birtthday month flower (Jan) and lilies of the valley and geraniums. I have to plant east things because I have kind of a black thumb but still love all things planty! Hens and Chicks too, a succelent with a variety called legolas/legolis!

Maybe we could have a mini-moot with some of the other Colorado sibs. There was a letter to Dear Abby or some such several years ago from a woman who was offered a job in another state but didn't want to leave her daughter's grave. Abby suggested putting up a memorial in the new place. Our next door neighbors planted a tree in their yard in memorial of the woman's mother. Maybe you could do something like that for your dad. Sometimes it makes me a little sad that my ancestors don't have any gravestones. But I did buy bricks for them at the flood memorial in Big Thompson canyon, since I wanted to support the memorial and it was an opportunity to have some kind of marker. We often stop there on Memorial Day too, partly to honor the two policemen who gave their lives to save so many people the night of the flood (my parents were flood survivors.)
