There once was a challenge quite tricky-trick: Can't Post

What visions made Gollum’s mind turn so sick?
Did it come from the Ring?
But now, here’s the thing:
Your answer must be in a limerick!

Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..."
Dwarves: "Pretty rings..."
Men: "Pretty rings..."
Sauron: "Mine's better."

"Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauron’s master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded b*****d with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak.

Twas all the same, the Ring to blame or Smeagol's shame. [In reply to] Can't Post

The Ring came along and sang the song, for
murder of Deagol did haunt Smeagol.

Smeagol did hide, for the Ring provide.
In hiding did Gollum slowly creep, came upon Smeagol asleep.

For Gollum did weep, Smeagol did reap.

"My cave is depressing," said Smeagol.
"The food and the drink are not regal.

I wish I had left It with Deagol!"

It makes us too thin!
It gives us dry skin!

One could say that it was the hunger [In reply to] Can't Post

That tore poor Smeagol's mind asunder
Malnourished by Ring
This treacherous thing
The split that ensued was no wonder

Some said it was lack of good chlorophyll [In reply to] Can't Post

That did for the mind of poor Smeagyll
Cos he ate only fish
From his satellite dish
Instead of tuning his TV to see Dr Phil

(who would've solved all his problems in a jiffy, of course)

The fish may be fresh and a'wigglin'
The taters raw simply amazing

It only occurred to him later
What turned Smeagol into such a hater
Blast those hobbitses
For ruining his rabbitses
Twas an allergic reaction to TATERS!

Out of the darkness of my life, so much frustrated, I put before you the one great thing to love on earth: the Blessed Sacrament... There you will find romance, glory, honour, fidelity, and the true way of all your loves on earth, and more than that: Death: by the divine paradox, that which ends life, and demands the surrender of all, and yet by the taste (or foretaste) of which alone can what you seek in your earthly relationships (love, faithfulness, joy) be maintained, or take on that complexion of reality, of eternal endurance, which every man's heart desires.

Driven to hide by the gold-Ring

Tried near the sea, no good.
Then under the hills he crawled, slinking.

My attempt. [In reply to] Can't Post

Into madness he soon would descend
Something Smeagol would never amend
You see its quite awful
and highly unlawful
To murder and thieve your best friend.

But Smeagol he hid and existed
Shoving fish in his mouth double fisted
With no chance of reform
He would slowly transform
into something quite evil and twisted.
