My favorite scene is in Return of the King, when everyone bows to the hobbits. It exemplifies a principal theme of the trilogy: ordinary people with the love and fellowship of their friends can do rather extraordinary things.

Hands down, the best scene was: Gollum vs. Smeagol from The Two Towers. Gollum: We wants it, we needs it. Must have the precious. They stole it from us. Sneaky little hobbitses. Wicked, tricksy, false! Smeagol: No. Not master! Gollum: Yes, precious, false! They will cheat you, hurt you, LIE. Smeagol: Master is our friend! Gollum: You don't have any friends; nobody likes you! Smeagol: I'm not listening... I'm not listening... Gollum: You're a liar and a thief. Smeagol: No! Gollum: *Murderer*. Smeagol: Go away! Gollum: "Go away?" [Gollum laughs as Smeagol begins crying] Smeagol: I hate you, I hate you. Gollum: Where would you be without me, gollum, gollum? I saved us! It was me! We survived because of me! Smeagol: [stops crying] Not anymore. Gollum: What did you say? Smeagol: Master looks after us now. We don't need you anymore. Gollum: What? Smeagol: Leave now, and never come back! Gollum: No! Smeagol: Leave now, and never come back! [Gollum screams in frustration] Smeagol: LEAVE! NOW! AND NEVER COME BACK! [Gollum is silent] Smeagol: [looks around] We told him to go away... and away he goes, Precious! Gone, gone, gone! Smeagol is free!

I particularly like the scene at the end of Two Towers during Sam's speech. The speech combined with the music and the montage of the happenings of the rest of the Fellowship are very nice, methinks.

My favorite scene in the LOTR Trilogy is the Mouth of Sauron's scene in the EE of RotK! I just loved his voice (I use "I have a token I was bidden to show thee!" as my text message alert), and I just loved his appearance and air of rot and evil decay. The way he knows Gandalf and taunts them about Frodo is very eerie yet fun to watch, and I love how Aragorn shuts him up with a nice decapitation! I just love all the evil characters, wish Sauron had gotten the Ring, and the Mouth of Sauron is a favorite who was sadly cut from the theatrical edition!

My favorite scene has always been the last scene at Helm's Deep when Theoden and the other top horsemen ride out in a last ditch attempt to defeat the uruk-hai. The best part is when Gandalf appears on Shadow fax at the top of the hill and he and Eomer's army then charge down the hill to defeat the orcs. Best scene ever from the best movie of the trilogy, in my opinion.

But if I have to, I'll say Boromir's battle and death scene in FoTR. Incredibly moving, I sit on the edge of my seat and cry every time I watch to this day. A close second (tie actually) would be the Fellowship going past the Argonaths as they float down the river- the visuals and CGI are simply astounding; and Haldir's battle and death at Helm's Deep, even though it wasn't in the books. It elevated his character to the level it deserved and Craig gave an outstanding performance. Actually I think everything is a tie for first and I'm just tossing out the first thing that I thought of. LOL How can one possibly choose a favorite scene from three of the best films ever made?

This is flat-out impossible to choose. My all-time favorite scene from the trilogy is Boromir's demise in Fellowship. So many wonderful little moments here, from the sounding of the Horn of Gondor, to Boromir's line "They've taken the little ones!", to Merry and Pippin taking up arms to charge the Uruk-hai, and finally Boromir's ultimate redemption. "I would have followed you my Brother... my Captain... my King." Perfect! Honorable mention goes to Pippin's excitement upon learning of the existence of PINTS!

My favorite scene is the build up to and the beginning of the attack on Helm's Deep. The sense of foreboding and despair is portrayed quite well and really captures my empathy for the people of Rohan.

My favorite scene is inside the mines of moria. When the fellowship crosses the bridge at Khazad Dum and Gandalf after having made sure the rest of the fellowship was safe turns to face the Balrog of Morgoth and says "You shall not pass" driving his staff into the bridge causing it to shatter and the Balrog to tumble into the pit. I think this is my favorite scene because having purchased the deluxe versions of all three movies, I would always drive my late wife crazy by reciting these lines with Gandalf.

My Favorite Scene - Introducing the Shire

Yikes...this is way to hard. But since we had to wait years for this truly authentic rendition of Tolkiens magical tale. The "coming soon" clips made me "pray" that I would not die before this trilogy came to the silver screen. I will have to say the first scenes of the Shire and of Bilbos' Hobbit Hole are my favorites. Mr.Jackson got it right from that moment....I whispered to my wife that I had gotten my monies worth in those 1st five minutes... I still feel like a kid at Christmas when it starts and can hunker down to enjoy the grand adventure.

Like most people here, I find it nearly impossible to think of one truly favorite scene from these masterpieces. I do, however, really love the small scene in the mines of Moria when Frodo tells Gandalf "I wish the ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened." "So do I,' said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us." This small bit of advice is one that everyone can benefit from. We rarely choose many of the unfortunate situations that we may find ourselves in, often through no fault of our own, but we are defined by how we deal with them and our ability to adapt, react and move on. This relates to all aspects of our lives, be they personal, professional or any other facet. Makes me think (personally) and evaluate my life and my priorities. We only go around once in this wide world... am I living my life or am I just going through the motions.

The Council of Elrond. The writing strikes the mood perfectly, but I love the gold infused colors and the falling leaves. The fall-like mood, the waning of the year, everything brings home the solemnity of the task as well as the aging and the passing of the elves. Also, it's just pretty :)

My favorite scene, is at the black gate, in the Return of the King. Aragorn is challenged by Sauron, and although he realizes there is no hope for himself he knows what he must do. He turns around and says just loud enough for the members of the fellowship to hear, and says "For Frodo." And runs to his death. He is soon followed by Merry and Pippin, who are quickly overtaken by Gandalf, Legolas and Gimli, and the soldiers. The music is amazing, and the mood is so powerful, I almost cry when I see it. Definitely my favorite scene.

All time fav., best moment, cinematography historical scene: The sweep of the Rohirrim on the Pelennor Fields ever since they arrive with Theoden's Rallying Speech and the music - oh my God i don't even know either to piss my pants in my excitement or cry my eyes out and charge down with them roaring onto the streets: 'Death'! And when they finally hit on the orcs it's like an orgasm.

In ROTK EE when Gandalf and Pippin are riding Shadowfax during the Siege of Minas Tirith, when the King of the Nazgul "greets" them as they come around a corner. It's one of those scenes where they chose not to remain true to the book, and it turned out not to be a bad decision.

I've decided that if my entry happens to win any of this contest's prizes that I will donate it to one of our international TORnsibs. I entered only because I really liked the scene I described and it breaks my heart that so many of my kindred cannot win. Further, I'm in the middle of a divorce and I wouldn't want such a prize to end up in orcish hands anyway!
