"Both Sides Now-" Lotr inspired? Can't Post

I just read a bio of Joni Mitchell, Carly Simon, and Carole King called "Girls like Us". In it Joni said that song was influenced by that book though it was written after a divorce, thus explaining some of the lyrics. Interesting.

My science fiction story with characters inspired by Frodo, Elanor, Sam, and Galadriel! http://lilywasheree.tripod.com

who knew? [In reply to] Can't Post

I became a fan of book, song and singer all around the same time and I never would have figured that.

Hmm. [In reply to] Can't Post

I looked for information about that online, and found that she'd claimed she'd started writing the song as a "children's fantasy" (that was the LotR inspiration), then was sidetracked a bit by other ideas, and came up with the final version.

I guess it's just a case of it being a dangerous business, writing songs, you step into it with an idea, and if you don't keep your thoughts, there is no knowing where it might be swept off to. Wink

Having written a few songs, I'd agree. Also, Tolkien probably saw the connection to story-telling, too.
