Lembas vs Holiday Fruitcake

Time for another "daft comparison game" Light and crispy or multiple texture violations; years of Elven wisdom or years at the back of the pantry; whey or way too much; loaded with nutrition or loaded with Maraschino cherries... Which one has the edge? Lembas or Fruitcake?

given that my tastebuds classify any fruitcake as 'revolting'.
Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..." Dwarves: "Pretty rings..." Men: "Pretty rings..." Sauron: "Mine's better." "Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauron’s master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded b*****d with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak. ...Ordinary Hobbit and Hobbit Love's fruitcake. It is as good as my friend Mimi's fruitcake and we feel blessed when we can get some from either source. The trick is not to use the candied fruit but instead dried fruit. And nuts. And liquor. yum Other than a taste of the Hob's fruitcake at our last moot, my season was bare of fruitcake this year. :-( I don't know what lembas is like and it's supposed to be magical so how can it not be better than any mortal food. But lots of recipes I see trying to create a mortal version of lembas use shortbread. If I had shortbread and good fruitcake in front of me... I'd take the fruitcake.

I have a soft spot for home-made fruitcake. Especially if it's made with real dried fruit, nuts and liquor (as others have pointed out). Lembas seems more like upscale energy or granola bars -- something you'd eat while camping, not a special holiday treat.
With caffeine, all things are possible. The pity of Bilbo will screw up the fate of many.

with coffee. Quite good really, if it wasn't for those indigestion inspiring candied cherries. Maybe you have to be an Elf to truly prefer Lembas?

I've made loads of them this year, and have decided I actually quite like it. I think my problem before was that I'd never tried home made. When it's made with proper dried fruits and nuts, it can be quite delicious!

While I have heard many times that a (true) homemade fruitcake is delicious, I haven't tried one. (nor do I believe it (delicious) Seems it should be either cake or fruit. Not a mixture of the two. I don't particularly like cooked or dried fruit (not even a fan of apple pie for that reason). I have not had the pleasure (or displeasure) of trying lembas either. Depending on what "sort of" bread it actually is, I could be happy with some mayonnaise or honey butter on it. So, you see my dilemna in choosing?

If you only need a little bite of lembas to sustain you for some time, it seems to me the way to go. ;)
