I think the Saturday show worked well for most of us this past year, don't you? It's better for those who are on travel budgets and can't come in earlier, plus it guarantees that all-important Saturday night stay-over the airlines require for their lower fares. That would leave Friday night open for another TORn & Friends bash. Spread the word to buy tickets for Saturday night!

ticket buying process (at least last year)
[In reply to]

I wrote this last year and some found it helpful.. and I wished to reread it for my transaction tomorrow (yes, the mister and I are going!). So, here it is again. I can't remember if all ticket sales were routed through ticketmaster or if you could choose to buy from ticketmaster or RCMH. And, if you could chose, I don't know which choice this process describes. And I don't know if it's the same this year. But here's what it was like last year:
- You put in a date, quantity and a price you wanted to pay.
- Then you make some determination about how you want to chose a seat: best available or in some particular area or handicapped, etc.
- Then they offer you some seats and you have 4 minutes to buy them or they go back into the availability pool.
4 minutes is not a long time. You don't have time to go look around at seating charts (if it matters to you, investigate areas first and either have the charts up in another window or print them out to glance at after getting the offers of seats. You do not have time to go dig out your card or squint to read the numbers on it. Have it next to you and write the numbers out on paper if you can't read your card easily (including that little number on the back if you have it). Don't dawdle during any choice or you'll get to the end of the process only to be told the tickets are gone and you have to start over again. I dawdled looking at seating charts and lost my first tickets. The second offer was a few rows behind the first.

That was fast. I'm signed up for the RC newsletter for this, and have been keeping track, but it still seems awfully soon to be selling tix for an event so soon after the last one....I wasn't expecting this until the new year, at least... I hope info on the designated hotel doesn't come as soon...after all the fuss I had in NYC *cough*:) I swore that would never happen to me again. I want time enough to save up for splitting the cost of a room....I can get my tickets, but if we're talking hotel expenses right now, I will tear my hair out. I hope we manage to get the Park Central for next year..that was a great place, and in the perfect location. Thanks for the info, Magpie. Already excited by this..although ROTK is what I really am stoked for...

Not the best time of year for tickets to go on sale.

It would have been nice if they could have at least waited until after the holidays, but oh well... I know a few of us are planning to get our tickets today for the Saturday show. Woot!

If you bought tickets with Ticketmaster before, you'll need your password

I created one last year for RCMH-FOTR and I needed it for this transaction. I could have looked it up hoping I noted it in the place I keep passwords but the clock was ticking so I said I 'forgot' and they sent me a new one which enabled me to buy within the time period. Also, I tried to buy $79 tickets and it wouldn't let me saying there was some problem with my request. Both $69 and $89 tickets would go through, however, so I guess they just don't have any $79 available ... or available at this time.

I agree with deej that this isn't the best time of year for a tix pre-sale, but oh well, some things have to be a priority! First row, second mezzanine, just about in the center. Having sat in the second row of the third mezzanine for FOTR, and having enjoyed the show immensely, I don't think there's a bad seat in the house. I liked being up high, so as to see the screen, and get the birds'-eye view of the goings-on of the musicians (particularly enjoyed watching the percussionists!). Looking forward to October 2010!!

Ticketmaster offers a seating chart

But the location list doesn't give the prices that go with the locations, so you have to select something to see what he cost is. Silly. I think I may have to wait a bit to get tickets, in between paychecks right now. I also think I want to go with others, so I'm going to hit up some of the peeps I hung with this year to see if they want to go together and sit together. eta: Those who got tickets already, start shouting out your locations so others can possibly find seats nearby.

I couldn't resist and already bought the ticket. Now I have to start saving for hotel and flight. But I hope those can wait a little bit longer. I think I have a great seat: ORCH4, row JJ, seat 413 (it looks like it is totally in the centre and a lot more to the front than the seat this year, although that was already an amazing seat). I also had a bit of a "struggle" to order the ticket. I couldn't get anything when I wanted a ticket of $89,00, but when I asked for one of $79,00 I got a ticket of $89,00. Oh well, I'm happy, I've got a ticket!

I assume the $79 are the 2nd Tier/Mezzanine? That's where I really want to be this time....glad to see I'm not alone . Good luck to all who seek the $79 tix. I'm going to wait a few days and see if I have more success. I hope that some Corporate Entity hasn't secured most of the best seats there...anything goes. With Ticketba....I mean, *master* after what I've seen of how they handle rock concerts, you never know. Now that people know what to expect.. Wow, Rosie, got your tix already....but I notice, LOL, you are thinking about the hotel too:)

I don't think I'm going to be able to go next year unless something changes financially. I am making it a point to go to Florida this year to see one of the last 5 space shuttle launches. For being a NASA nerd all my life, having worked there for 5 years on both the shuttle and ISS programs, having taught astronauts and flight controllers and having friends in many areas - I STILL have never seen a launch in person. The ONE i actually went down to see got postponed due to some mechanical failure. so that's my top priority this year hands down. i also may have to attend the national PTA convention. i was tapped to become the male involvement rep for the state of Iowa for the last minority leadership conference. i may end up reprising that role at the national convention in june. if these both happen the chances that i'll have the money AND vacation time left at work will be slim. grrrr. but hey, I'm sure i can live vicariously thru this group. others seem to have managed to survive and make it thru the first movie without being there...

you're lucky...a lot of us will have to live a shuttle lauch soon via IMAX (the Hubble thing)...nevertheless, I hope something works out. Any luck, anybody, with the $89 tix? Finances are picking up post-holiday and I have been waiting to buy when I can get them,...

Though family priorities(costing $$) make my attendance less likely this year, I have happy memories of last year's events. Many thanks again to all the TORNfolk who planned gatherings, tours, etc.

I'd love to sit near other folks and I think I've convinced my friend Kathy to bring her whole family for the event. Will still need my own hotel room, since her's is full with 4, so I'll be keeping my eyes open for roommates. GD, Deej, Gar, LQ, O, and others I met ... please keep me in mind as we get closer and find out if TORn has an event hotel again next year! FYI, if you need any extra help on your crew with planning for TTT, please know I'm happy to volunteer. Thanks to work, I have some experience...and a 6-page event checklist so I don't forget anything. :) ---Tamara
