Meant to include this earlier.
Each cloak was fastened about the neck with a brooch like a green leaf veined with silver. `Are these magic cloaks? ' asked Pippin, looking at them with wonder. `I do not know what you mean by that,' answered the leader of the Elves. NARF since 1974. Balin Bows

The party planners, specifically Thorongil and maegwen, have created a fabulous adventure for the NYC Mooters. Although their names might not be familiar to you, Thor and maegwen are long-time members of the TORN family. maegwen is one of the admins in the Chat Room and a member of the senior staff at TORN. Thorongil helps behind the scenes at TORN and provided valuable assistance at the fabulous TORN Oscar parties and ORC events. They both live in the NY area and put together a wonderful itinerary for us Mooters for Saturday in New York. Here's the details. IF IT RAINS Thorongil and maegwen's Amazing Adventure meets everyone in the hotel lobby at noon. maegwen will lead everyone on a subway trip (#2 train downtown) to Ground Zero, where we will meet Thorongil, to view the site and visit the on-scene museum. http://www.tributewtc.org/index.php http://www.mta.info/.../service/twoline.htm We will then travel, again by subway (#1 train to South Ferry), to Battery Park where we can see views of the Statue of Liberty and soak (literally) up some local color. http://www.nycgovparks.org/parks/batterypark http://www.mta.info/.../service/oneline.htm We will then travel by taxi to the South Street Seaport*, one of lower Manhattan's historic districts for shopping, some food, and to visit the Seaport Museum. We can also view and takes pictures of the historic Brooklyn Bridge. (seen in a multitude of TV shows and movies) http://www.southstreetseaport.com/ http://www.southstreetseaportmuseum.org/ Anyone wishing to leave early or take in other Lower Manhattan sites are welcome to do so and we will give directions to the best of our ability! We personally plan to return to the hotel by 5 p.m. * South Street Seaport replaces boat trip, which will be remarkably uncomfortable during rain, as well as unable to see much of anything. IF IT DOESN'T RAIN Thorongil & maegwen's Amazing Adventure will meet everyone in the hotel lobby at noon. maegwen will lead everyone on a subway trip (#2 train downtown) to Ground Zero, where we will meet Thorongil, to view the site and visit the on-scene museum. http://www.mta.info/.../service/twoline.htm http://www.tributewtc.org/index.php We will then travel by subway to Battery Park / South Ferry and pick up a tour of the New York Harbor. Our choices are: The Circle Line one-hour tour of the New York Harbor and Hudson River http://www.circlelinedowntown.com/zephyr.asp $27.00 per person The 60-minute New York Waterway tour http://www.museumtix.com/...=340&pid=5774158 $16 per person Staten Island Ferry http://www.siferry.com/ free (OR anyone not wishing to take the boat trip can travel with maegwen to the South Street Seaport to poke around until we meet up with the boat-goers.) All boats leave from South Ferry piers. People on this trip can choose the boat ride of their desire. We will all reconvene at the pier by (hopefully) 4:30 pm. to travel back uptown by subway. Anyone wishing to leave early or take in other Lower Manhattan sites are welcome to do so and we will give directions to the best of our ability! If you're interested in taking part of this amazing adventure, please send an e-mail to maegwen at maegwen at theonering.net. There's no limit to the number of people, but maegwen will want to send messages to the attendees and have a rough idea of how many will be attending.

I'm thrilled and will pm maegwen as directed. Just thought a little more info here might help any *ahem* eaves-droppers to decide.

Were you still going to the 9AM Manuscript exhibit, or was that someone else? I know Gramma is.

Travel time to and from the hotel would be about half an hour each way. I believe the ferry is walking distance from Ground Zero. I think a subway ride is $2 each way. Not sure how long each item will take, but according to the message, the trip starts at noon and they aim to be back at the hotel by 5. maegwen can probably give you more details. I would suggest you e-mail maegwen and not PM. She isn't regularly here on the boards so she might not see a PM.

It's impossible to predict how long we'll spend at each spot, as it will depend on the size of the group and when we deem ourselves sated with the current sight being seen. That said, we need to be at Battery Park / Pier by 2ish, in order to get tickets, allow for a 60 minute tour and to regroup in time to get back to hotel. But this isn't the sort of thing where it's practical to announce a timetable, because it's invariably going to be dictated by unknowables. If you want to join us later, I would say to send me your cell number (all people should send me their cell number) and we can advise you where we are. :)

Due to issues with TORn e-mail, please message me through the board's private message system with your nick, name, e-mail address and cell number. We won't hold you to attending, but this will help us get an idea of # of people and a way to get in contact with you. Thanks!
