I don't know why the text of my post didn't display the first time around, but below is the link to an article on slashfilm.com. It discusses a remake of the movie "Heavy Metal" that could star the Jack Black/Kyle Gass band "Tenacious D" (commonly referred to as "The D"). The article lists Guillermo del Toro as possibly having some association with the film. http://www.slashfilm.com/...w-heavy-metal-movie/

It's too early to be thinking Drood just yet--he said it'll be bearing fruits "mid-term", and haivng read Drood, it is going to take a LOT of planning and work. Casting Dickens is going to be a job in itself, as well as the title character, and he has said it won't interfere with TH. We've been discussing Drood at length over at DTF< and it is certainly one of the projects he seems to have his heart dead set on after TH (Frankenstein and At The Mountains Of Madness are others.) *Crosses fingers* Oh please I hope ATMOM comes to fruition one day--I know it's a tough studio sell! But if TH is as successful as LOTR (and why shouldn't it be?) I think Guillermo may well have his pick of projects--as PJ now has his. "Deadman" is my opinion. Should be interesting!

I just got through Drood and I thoroughly concur with what you just said. Length aside, it is a very complex work and I'd say the difficulty lies not in the casting but in the "ironing out" of the narrative so that it translates and makes sense on screen. What DRT btw? As a fan of the book I might pop in there
So Frodo Baggins boarded the great ship and passed on into the west till the sweet fragrance on the air filled his sense and the sound of singing came over the water. Then it seemed to him that, as in a dream, he beheld white shores and beyond them a far green country. The third age of Middle Earth was over, the days of the Rings had passed and the story and song of those times was at an end.

Ok, here goes. Read this on Google books: http://books.google.com/books?id=Nd65uZ9iO3YC&lpg=PA4&ots=NfhF-vHgpY&dq=%22The%20key%20letter%20is%20D%22&pg=PA4#v=onepage&q=%22The%20key%20letter%20is%20D%22&f=false He states clearly that he is using a substition code and he is telling us that the "key letter" for the code is 'D" - apparently. But mentioning the "BIG" word he alerts us to the other BIG word which is "BEFORE". So the key letter BEFORE the true key letter is "D". The true key letter is then "E". So, if you pick his text, uppercase it, and replace the letters in such a way that the 'A' becomes 'E', 'B' becomes 'F' etc. this is what you get: In a few days there will be a BIG announcement (big for me, at least) that is not-Hobbit related. BEFORE anyone starts wondering the usual 'how does he have time?, Is this detracting form The Hobbit?' etc It is a project that started over 2 years ago, before The Hobbit and will render fruits in the mid-term, not intruding on my Hobbit duties. Rest assured. The key letter is 'D' Best GDT becomes MR E JIA HECW XLIVI AMPP FI E FMK ERRSYRGIQIRX (FMK JSV QI, EX PIEWX) XLEX MW RSX-LSFFMX VIPEXIH. FIJSVI ERCSRI WXEVXW ASRHIVMRK XLI YWYEP 'LSA HSIW LI LEZI XMQI?, MW XLMW HIXVEGXMRK JSVQ XLI LSFFMX?' IXG MX MW E TVSNIGX XLEX WXEVXIH SZIV 2 CIEVW EKS, FIJSVI XLI LSFFMX ERH AMPP VIRHIV JVYMXW MR XLI QMH-XIVQ, RSX MRXVYHMRK SR QC LSFFMX HYXMIW. VIWX EWWYVIH. XLI OIC PIXXIV MW 'H' FIWX KHX As you see, the new text begins with "MR E". My bet is his movie is about this character: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mister_E. Best regards, Luís Ferreira

'Dwimorberg Revisited' 'Dragons Unlimited' 'Daisy Gamgee-The Life and Times' 'Deagol's Diary-Surprising Discoveries' 'Dol Amroth- The Life and Times' 'Dora Baggins- Life and Times' It COULD be somewhat LOTR's related in my usual hopefulness:) In any event here is wishing you the best of fortune concerning the 'D' bomb you are about to drop. All the more power to you GdT:). Thanks for the head-up. It is quite thoughtful of you for doing so.
''What connects Nature to the spiritual, or requires the presence of the latter? In positive terms, as Alkis Kontos points out, when nature was still largely experienced as integral, alive and active, 'It was the spiritual dimension of the world, its enchanted, magical quality that rendered it infinite, not amenable to complete calculability; spirit could not be quanified; it permitted and invited mythologization.' And I would add, it still is and does.'' Patrick Curry-Defending Middle-Earth-Tolkien: Myth and Modernity - chapter: 'The Sea: Spirituality and Ethics.' It's short for Del Toro's official website, Del Toro Films. http://www.deltorofilms.com I love the current graphic on the Homepage!:) It's a great little community--like TORN in minature. And I mean minature--only about 40 posters. But they're a close-knit bunch and most of them have met Del Toro, Ron Perlman, Doug Jones and others of his crew, at "Hellboy" and other related events over the years. Worth checking out. Though traffic is much less volume than on here!

Mr. E... Hehehe.. Maybe a movie about the biggest ROCKSTAR of the WORLD! (sorry for my capslock.. just excited, that's all.. not shouting, well actually I am) That would be sweet... A movie about the man that is Eels. But Del-Toro-style, so jumping, kicking and crucifying vampires.. Well maybe GDT should base it on E's more than great book: 'Things the Grandchildren Should Know'. Still thinking it's Deadman actually. Drood is too big, to do midterm. And he wants to direct that, isn't he? So, that isn't the one. AtMoM is still not sure, and nothing D-like. As is Mary Shelley-Godwin's 'Frankenstein'. I was thinking about 'Le avventure di Pinocchio', because that is known by the mass as a Disney-movie... But the story GDT wants to make will probably be a lot darker than the Disney-version and more true to the Collodi-original. Maybe even without the 'happy-ending' put in by the editor. I would love to see a movie about Pinocchio after the puppets in HBII.. _____________ There will probably be many spelling & grammar mistakes, but I'm not english-speaking. Sorry..

An interesting add-on... http://en.wikipedia.org/..._High_Cost_of_Living Death: The High Cost of Living is an American comic book miniseries [..] A movie based on this series is currently in the works with New Line Cinema [..] Plot [..]not overtly stated, but implied to be an alternate future version of Mister E, after his return from the end of time at Death's hands in The Books of Magic volume 1 [..] Film adaptation Death and Me is a film in development based upon Death: The High Cost of Living. The concept is that, once every century, the embodiment of Death is incarnated as a mortal woman for a single day to experience what she takes from others. Gaiman wrote the screenplay himself, and will also be directing. Gaiman made his directorial debut in 2003 with "A Short Film About John Bolton." Guillermo del Toro will serve as executive producer.

I know Johnny Depp wants to play Barnabas, and has the film rights. Guillermo as producer or director would be amazing!
