Richard Armitage for Bard and Keith Allen for Goblin King! [In reply to] Can't Post

In Reply To
...Richard Armitage is all man. He's altogether too masculine and sexy Wink and IMO looks too big and 'mightily thewed' for an elf (mmm... those shoulders and thighs Blush). At the slight risk of repeating myself Wink, he would make a perfect Bard.

He does 'grim' so well...

...and he looks formidable with a long bow.

Plus... he's got THE VOICE (sorry, can't post a picture of that!)

Below are two casting suggestions in one: Bard (Richard Armitage) walking beside the Great Goblin (Keith Allen). They could save money casting Keith Allen as the goblin king because he wouldn't need much make-up...

Ha, ha!! Keith Allen as the Goblin King!! I love it!! :P

It would be a crime against humanity not to have Rhys Darby, band manager to Flight of the Conchords, have a cameo as a hobbit.

As a hobbit he would be great, we've already seen Bret in as Figwit - i think we need Jemaine for a role as well

Smaug's voice, a new suggestion [In reply to] Can't Post

Gabriel Woolf has the most amazing voice. He was the voice of Sutekh in the Pyramid of Mars, and that of the Beast in the Satan Pit and the Impossible Planet in Doctor Who. I would love to hear him as Smaug.

Mark Hamill!! [In reply to] Can't Post

I'd love to see him get a role in The Hobbit. He's a great actor - his voice work in various animated movies is brilliant - and, being the originator of the 'Mark Hamill curse' (which folks like Elijah Wood and Dan Radcliffe are working hard to try to avoid), he doesn't get the credit he deserves. Give the man a role, I say! He'd be fab.

Richard Armitage as Bard? Will Bard be in the second movie? [In reply to] Can't Post

If the latest rumours are true and filming starts early next year, how likely will it be for Richard Armitage to be available to be in this movie? Granted, I believe he would be the perfect Bard (and have been saying so for well over a year) but his availability will depend on whether Bard appears in the first or second movie.
He seems to be already committed to other projects for 2010..... good for him that he has work, but not so good for those of us who would like to see him in this role...

Adding this name to the list.... [In reply to] Can't Post

the recent IMDB poll got me thinking.... what about Ben Barnes for Bard? or even Thranduil? (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1602660/). the kid's got theater cred and is a pretty competent actor, enough to hold his own even against acting heavyweights.

hmm...Barnes... [In reply to] Can't Post

way too young & fresh faced for either of those roles...imo.
Bard has to be older, grim, very 'everyman', very rugged...
Thranduil has to be kingly, full of wisdom, slightly menacing...I don't see it in him.

more than meets the eye.... [In reply to] Can't Post

well, i'm not sure about "older" but Bard is the typical everyman character that comes to his own as the story progresses. thats why i thought Barnes would do well in that role. and he can look scruffy-- he just finished an indie film called "Valediction" where he is quite rugged looking.

as for looking sinister for Thranduil, thats wasnt my primary qualifier for casting, but more of who could convincingly look like he could be Orlando Bloom's Legolas' father. there is a likenes between the two, although quite frankly i have no clue if Barnes can pull off the blonde look. in any case i wouldnt put it past Barnes to play sinister. from what i've seen of the "Dorian Gray" adverts Barnes can be pretty nasty basterd, his eyes can convey a lot of darkness (literally and figuratively).

edit: one other thing, Barnes isnt that young anymore either, he is 28. being kingly and full of wisdom will probably be a walk in the park for him at this point since he's doing Voyage of the Dawn Treader.
