TORn History Scavenger Hunt : Tookish's Ticklers Can't Post

And yet there lie in Denethor's hoards many records that few now can read, even of the lore-masters,
for their scripts and tongues have become dark to later men.

Tookish's Ticklers is, like Quickbeam's Out on a Limb, found in GreenBooks. It is worth copying the intro for this section:
Welcome to TheOneRing.net's Lord of the Rings & J.R.R. Tolkien humor section! This area contains a wide range of comedy for the Tolkien fan. Please be aware that some entries may be vulgar, or contain profanity or other inappropriate content for some readers. Movie and story spoilers may also be present! Parent supervision is advised. Caution: reading this page in the wee hours may disrupt sleeping family... Enjoy!

There are 6 areas in Tookish's Ticklers and I have one challenge from each area. To find all items in each section, click on the 'archives' link next to each subhead.
[ Writings Archive ] - [ Filk Song Archive ] - etc.

I'm hoping that 'hint' is enough to steer you to the proper area but if you need more hints, just ask. I love hints.

Be sure to find the Bonus question at the end of the hunt.

As per my earlier hunt, I'll post the answers and collectible medallions for those who participate in a few days. The game has no deadline, however, and you can complete any challenge at any time at which time you will claim your medallion. Discussion beyond simple answers is always welcome.

So now... let the hunt begin!

1. Where can you find Andrew Arensburger's map that gives "Walking Directions to Mordor"
(This really did tickle me and I thought it so clever it was one of the first things I saved it to my hard drive.)

2. How many Tolkien purists does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
(Remember, the goal is to find these items in Tookish's Ticklers. The goal is not to write an answer. Although, I 'spect someone will chose not to care. :P )

3. List one of the mistakes Steven S said we all "hope Peter Jackson will avoid in filming Lord of the Rings".

4. What is the the Number One Reason the Other Istari Vanished?

5. What webcam is Sauron monitoring on his computer desktop and who just sent him an IM?

6. Who wrote the following filk song and to what popular tune is it sung?
He is just a poor boy, though his story’s often told
How he followed Mister Frodo out into a life of peril
And of suffering
He could have stayed
Still old Sam does what he ought to do
And never once betrayed
Hm-mm-mm, hm-mm-mm-mm

When he left his home and his Gaffer there,
He was no more than a boy
In the company of hobbits
In the danger of the Great East Road, they’re
Runnin’ scared
Laying low, hiding out from big Black Riders
Creatures they don’t want to see
Looking for the relative safety of Bree

My-my-my, my-my-my-my-my, my-my-my
My-my-my, my-my-my-my-my-my-my
My-my-my-my-my

Seeking only to be loyal
Sam would not be left behind
Elrond couldn’t stop him
So he struck out with the Fellowship from Rivendell
I do declare
It’s a good thing he was with Frodo
They made a perfect pair
La, la, la, la, la, la, la

My-my-my, my-my-my-my-my, my-my-my
My-my-my, my-my-my-my-my-my-my
My-my-my-my-my

At the breaking of the Fellowship
When Frodo tried to leave, go alone
Samwise swam out to the boat and made him take him on
On the road – to the end

In the clearing stands a hobbit
And a gardener by his trade
But he stood by Mister Frodo
Through every trial that laid him down or cut him.
And he cries out through his anger and his pain,
"I won’t leave him, I won’t leave him,"
And the gardener still remains
Yes, he still remains
Hm-mm-mm

My-my-my, my-my-my-my-my, my-my-my
My-my-my, my-my-my-my-my-my-my
My-my-my-my-my

Bonus: What's your favorite tickler in Tookish's Ticklers?

Happy Hunting. :-)

Happily scavenging away... [In reply to] Can't Post

I think I got most of them -- after getting sidetracked checking out all of the outstanding creative works over there -- but at least I made it through all the questions this time!.

1. Walking Map to Mordor: That is one of the Links. A great one, I agree!

2. How many Tolkien purists does it take to screw in a lightbulb? None! It's not in the book (I personally loved this one...)

3. List one of the mistakes Steven S said we all "hope Peter Jackson will avoid in filming Lord of the Rings". -- Exploding helicopters! I think he's saving it for the Hobbit!

4. What is the the Number One Reason the Other Istari Vanished? -- Partying with Entwives....

5. What webcam is Sauron monitoring on his computer desktop and who just sent him an IM? -- Whoops, missed the webcam, but the message from Isildur's heir was pretty funny!

6. Who wrote the following filk song and to what popular tune is it sung? -- The lovely and talented Kyriel and it's the Boxer by Saruman and Glorfindel...

Bonus: What's your favorite tickler in Tookish's Ticklers?
-- I personally liked the comic images the best on my "tour" -- Would you trust this man to direct LOTR? Ha!

Thanks for doing these -- this was fun!

None... coz all of them would agree that Middle-earth had no electric stations Cool

My answers [In reply to] Can't Post

I should be doing housework, but these are more fun!

1. Where can you find Andrew Arensburger's map? I suppose you want the link?
It's at Hoom! Maps: http://www.ooblick.com/text/tomordor/

2. How many Tolkien purists does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
The answer in Tookish Ticklers is: "None -- the lightbulb was not in the book!"

I like this answer, too: Three--one to change the lightbulb, and two to argue whether the change is in the spirit of the book.

3. One of the mistakes hopefully avoided by PJ: Witch king is actually Eowyn's abusive father. That's the worst IMO.

4. What is the the Number One Reason the Other Istari Vanished? They were partying with the Entwives.

5. Sauron is monitoring the Orodruin Cam. Isildur's Heir just sent him an IM.

6. Filk song: Who wrote it? Kyriel
What popular tune? Simon and Garfunkel's "The Boxer"

Bonus: What's your favorite tickler in Tookish's Ticklers? I like the Top Ten lists, but you can't make me pick which is the best!

I don't know if this is what you're looking for, but here is the address for the map: http://www.ooblick.com/text/tomordor/

"None - the lightbulb was not in the book!" I had so much fun scrolling through to find this!

3. List one of the mistakes Steven S said we all "hope Peter Jackson will avoid in filming Lord of the Rings".

4. What is the the Number One Reason the Other Istari Vanished?

This was written by Kyriel to the tune of "The Boxer" by Simon and Garfunkel. Awesome!!!

Bonus: What's your favorite tickler in Tookish's Ticklers? I have only just begun to explore them, so I couldn't possibly choose anything just yet. I'll keep you posted, (if you'll pardon the pun!).

Happy Hunting. :-)

Aragorn threw back his cloak. The elven-sheath glittered as he grasped it, and the bright blade of Andúril shone like a sudden flame as he swept it out. “Elendil!” he cried. “I am Aragorn son of Arathorn, and am called Elessar, the Elfstone, Dúnadan, the heir of Isildur Elendil’s son of Gondor. Here is the Sword that was Broken and is forged again! Will you aid me or thwart me? Choose swiftly!” TTT, Book III, Chapter 2
And Éomer answered: “Since the day when you rose before me out of the green grass of the downs I have loved you, and that love shall not fail.” RotK, Book VI, Chapter 5

Okay here are my answers.

1. Where can you find Andrew Arensburger's map that gives "Walking Directions to Mordor"
(This really did tickle me and I thought it so clever it was one of the first things I saved it to my hard drive.)
Well it's in the links section of the ticklers if that's what you mean.Or do you mean the "website" Hoom maps?

2. How many Tolkien purists does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
(Remember, the goal is to find these items in Tookish's Ticklers. The goal is not to write an answer. Although, I 'spect someone will chose not to care. :P )
the answer in Ticklers is "None it wasn't in the book." I will say I like that answer.

3. List one of the mistakes Steven S said we all "hope Peter Jackson will avoid in filming Lord of the Rings".
"
Muppets used for Orcs; Frank Oz does Gollum's voice." LOL My dad actually calls Yoda "Grover the Jedi Master".

4. What is the the Number One Reason the Other Istari Vanished?
"1. Partying with the Entwives "

5. What webcam is Sauron monitoring on his computer desktop and who just sent him an IM?
Monitoring Orodruin cam and message from Isildur's heir.

6. Who wrote the following filk song and to what popular tune is it sung?
He is just a poor boy, though his story’s often told

I liked "I am the Very Model of an Ancient Evil General" but since I haven't scratched the surface of the compendium of mirth my opinions may change. :-)

What happened when Legolas and Aragorn road with Eomer in the van.
Aragorn: Eomer, Legolas has his bow on my side of the seat!

As before, the goal was to get you poking around the area, Tookish's Ticklers, and my questions were casually written (and, therefore, perhaps ambiguous) so don't judge your answers too rigidly. Here's what I was aiming at.

1. Where can you find Andrew Arensburger's map that gives "Walking Directions to Mordor"
This was in HUMOROUS LINKS so I was kind of looking for a link (because.. that's what one would be looking for in a links section). ;^)
http://www.ooblick.com/text/tomordor/

2. How many Tolkien purists does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
Found in the JOKES ARCHIVE : ANSWER: None -- the lightbulb was not in the book!

3. List one of the mistakes Steven S said we all "hope Peter Jackson will avoid in filming Lord of the Rings".
This entry was in WRITINGS.

4. What is the the Number One Reason the Other Istari Vanished?
This entry was in TOP TEN LISTS : 1. Partying with the Entwives

5. What webcam is Sauron monitoring on his computer desktop and who just sent him an IM?
This was in Comic Images and was called Sauron's Desk
The webcam is monitoring Orodruin

and Strider (Isildur's Heir) has just sent him an IM.

did you catch his task list?

6. Who wrote the following filk song and to what popular tune is it sung?

The Gardener (from Simon and Garfunkel’s "The Boxer") by Kyriel is found in FILK SONGS

Here are your medallions. Take your pick. I created a gray one to blend in with the message background (for footers) and a greenish one to blend in with background for avatars. If you don't want to blend in, there's a yellow one. And if you like, there's the medallion on its own.

Trouble in saving the medallion image. [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm not sure what the problem is, but when I try to save the image to my photobucket album, I get a picture of the quickbeam medallion instead of the tookish ticklers. I'm copying the image address from the image in your post. I tried "reload image" but that didn't help. Any ideas?

I'm not sure what the issue is - but here's an alternative [In reply to] Can't Post

I was thinking of doing this anyhow so this just pushed me to act.

I've created a web page with the images on them: http://www.amagpiesnest.com/a/torn/hunt/

You (and anyone else) can just right click on an image and find the url in the properties and then link to the images on my server - rather than putting them in a image hosting site.

If you have questions, check the link to my Image Posting Guide or ask in feedback. (I suspect you'll be fine, AE. That statement was global in nature.)

Edit: It worked! Thanks, Magpie!

I'll just delete the ones in my Photobucket album. Although I suppose that will cause the previously posted ones to give the red x of doom. Unsure

This is one area [In reply to] Can't Post

that I visited constantly, in my pre-Message Board days!

1. Where can you find Andrew Arensburger's map that gives "Walking Directions to Mordor"
In the Links, at http://www.ooblick.com/text/tomordor/. Don't you just love the "Mapquest" in Tengwar in the upper left corners!

2. How many Tolkien purists does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
None - there is no lightbulb in the Book.

3. List one of the mistakes Steven S said we all "hope Peter Jackson will avoid in filming Lord of the Rings".
Gimli armed with a chain saw - watch out, Fangorn!

4. What is the the Number One Reason the Other Istari Vanished?
Partying with the Entwives. Uh-huh...

5. What webcam is Sauron monitoring on his computer desktop and who just sent him an IM?
Heh, I love these desktops! The webcam is on Mt. Doom, and Aragorn just sent an IM.

6. Who wrote the following filk song and to what popular tune is it sung?
Kyriel - to the tune of Paul Simon's The Boxer. What a great collection this is!

Bonus: What's your favorite tickler in Tookish's Ticklers?
No one favorite - but one of my favorites is: why didn't Bombadil answer the phone? Because the Ring had no effect on him!
