Elijah Wood responds to the possibility of his playing Bilbo...

IESB.net has an interview with Elijah about his latest movie 9 and whether or not he would be interested in taking on the role of Bilbo for The Hobbit...
Q: As Frodo hasn't been born yet, does that mean you won't be in The Hobbit? Elijah: Somebody actually asked me, "Would you want to play Bilbo?" No, I don't want to play Bilbo. That would be far too weird. Yeah, Frodo doesn't exist. He's not born yet. For awhile, there was talk of a bridge film that was being bantered about, with the notion that the second film that they would make would chronologically bridge the gap between The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, so conceivably some of the characters could exist. But, I don't think that's going to happen now. Certainly, if they found a way to make the character work, I would love to be a part of it, but I'm just excited that they're doing it. I'm so excited that they're getting so many of the original team back together, creatively, because it's really I think going to help to keep the continuity of what was already established. I think it's going to be great. I love Guillermo del Toro. I think he's amazing. Q: Do you think it will happen, given the Tolkien estate's current unhappiness? Elijah: There's some talk of that. I just saw Peter Jackson at Comic-Con and, as far as he's concerned, it's full steam ahead. Technically they don't actually have a green light yet, which is funny because we're all talking about the movie as being filmed next year. It's not green-lit because they don't have a script yet. It's not finished. I think all of that business will start to occur in the next couple of months, and it remains to be seen whether that's going to be a roadblock for them or not. Q: Their complaint is they haven't received a cent for the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Were you surprised at that? Elijah: No, not at all. There was a prior lawsuit. I was surprised that it came back around again, just because it was news to me. I hadn't been following it closely. I followed the initial lawsuit that the family had issued, which I believed proved unsuccessful. This is their second time around. They want to use The Hobbit as leverage to stop them from making it, so they get paid. Who knows if it will work? There have been a few quarrels with New Line. That's nothing new. Q: Do you ever get tired of fans talking about The Lord of the Rings? Elijah: Really, honestly, I don't because it's an experience that I hold so dear, and I love those movies, too. And, not only that, but I also understand why people are excited about them. I've got plenty of stories. I could sit around and talk for hours, and I honestly don't get tired of it. I think I just have perspective on it. I know that, for the rest of my life, I'll be asked about it, and I accept that. I thank God that I'm going to be asked about something that I think is really genuinely great, for the rest of my life. It was a great experience. Only positive things came out of it, so people can ask about it all they want. The whole interview can be found here.

not in an Estrogen Island kinda way, cause he's young enough to be my kid, but he is really just a neat guy. Yes, we'll talk about these films forever. I'm glad he doesn't get tired of that, but I hope he will get some other great roles in the future, cause I would think it would be hard to consider your life's best work behind you. Thanks for the info, Elijah! Thanks, diedye. You are always the source!

to let TORn know if they are interviewed, by who, where and when you can find this interview, be it cast or crew, and thus be certain you'll never miss anything anymore? This saves us a lot of time, searching everywhere on the Internet if somebody "may" have given an interview involved with LotR and/or The Hobbit.

He's a good person with a great heart. I'd love to see him in some more films where that great soul can shine some more. I can't wait to see "9", but a new romantic comedy would be fun or adventure/action film would be fun to have. I know how he could play Bilbo as Frodo, though. He could be listening to Bilbo telling the story to a gaggle of hobbitlings (for the hundreth time) smiling and standing off to one side... maybe with Merry, Pippin and Sam... and imagining himself as Bilbo on that adventure. He talks in Rivendell about imagining he's off with Bilbo on one of his adventures. That way we could also have Ian Holm narrating/telling the tale in voice-over throughout the Quest. I know they won't do it, but it'd be a riot to see :)

You know I think you're the best, but in this one thing I MUST disagree. Sean is Boromir. Period. (and what a Boromir he is!)

Here's another interview with Elijah Wood on WSBTV.com:

Elijah Wood Says He Could Never Play Bilbo 'Rings' Star Wouldn't Feel Right Playing 'Hobbit' Role Tim Lammers, Staff Writer While he has no reason to believe that he'll be offered the pivotal role of Bilbo Baggins in the two-part movie version of "The Lord of the Rings" prequel "The Hobbit," Frodo Baggins actor Elijah Wood said that he would have to respectfully decline if the opportunity came about. "I don't think it would be appropriate for me to do it," Wood said in an @ The Movies interview Friday. "I think that the very fact that I've already played a character associated with the world of 'The Lord of the Rings' and Middle Earth. I think it would feel wrong to embody a different character, even if they are related." Director Guillermo Del Toro is currently at work on the film adaptations of the famed J.R.R. Tolkien novel, which will be produced and co-written by "Rings" filmmaker Peter Jackson. Wood said that he could understand why people would think he's a natural to play Bilbo, who was played in his later years by Ian Holm in "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy. "Conceivably you could make the argument that the story takes place many years earlier and maybe they look like each other," Wood said. "But I just don't see it. I feel like I've done so much to establish Frodo that it wouldn't feel right. If there was another way for Frodo to exist on some level in one of those movies, I would certainly be totally excited about doing that. But I don't think that's going to happen." Wood next stars in a voice role as the title character in the animated adventure fantasy "9," produced by Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov, and directed by Shane Acker in an adaptation of his own short film. Of the previous "Lord of the Rings" stars, Ian McKellen has been confirmed to reprise his role of the wizard Gandalf for "The Hobbit," which reportedly will begin filming in March. What a lovely thing to read before I head off to bed. He's a real gem, isn't he?
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Aragorn threw back his cloak. The elven-sheath glittered as he grasped it, and the bright blade of Andúril shone like a sudden flame as he swept it out. “Elendil!” he cried. “I am Aragorn son of Arathorn, and am called Elessar, the Elfstone, Dúnadan, the heir of Isildur Elendil’s son of Gondor. Here is the Sword that was Broken and is forged again! Will you aid me or thwart me? Choose swiftly!” TTT, Book III, Chapter 2 And Éomer answered: “Since the day when you rose before me out of the green grass of the downs I have loved you, and that love shall not fail.” RotK, Book VI, Chapter 5

That last part, especially, made me feel good- almost relieved me :P I'm so glad that was such a great experience for him. I wonder if the rest of the actors feel the same way, or if some (like, perhaps, Lee, who i know had a disagreement about being cut out of the theatrical edition of ROTK) would rather put it in the back of their heads and wished fans didn't talk about it all the time?

I'm so glad that he appears to understand what an iconic character he played, and what an iconic role he made of it. My mind can't even conceive of another LOTR movie (or set of movies) with anyone else ever playing Frodo, because EW *was* Frodo -- heart, soul, hairy feet and all. We didn't call him "Fro-lijah" for nothing!!! You know what, though, my dear darling gramma---I wouldn't give anything for the trilogies we've sat through together, and the tears we've cried together during those trilogies, but I will never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever forget your face at the One Party when EW came out onto the stage. Even now, when I think about it, the magic and wonder that we all experienced (and what now seems so many years ago), it still brings a smile to face and tears to my eyes. Love you!!
