Journal stuff [In reply to] Can't Post

Ok, I haven't been around the boards much recently, so I only saw this thread yesterday. Yes, the page size is way off; I am still trying to work out how I got those measurements, and I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience I know this has caused some of you. I have asked Magpie to measure the dimensions of the pages when she gets it.

I have to say, this project has been quite the learning experience. I have gotten so much out of it already, and I haven't even actually seen the journal since it's been sent. I appreciate the patience that a lot of you have given me; I've definitely needed it at times, and much of this project seems to be a sort of trial-and-error experience, and I'm glad for your understanding on this.

Needless to say, we have obviously gotten way off schedule. I was thinking of what to do about it today; both Dreamdeer and Daughter of Nienna are up for it after MN. I was originally having DoN get the journal before ComicCon, but that didn't work out due to delays in the schedule. I've decided that since the error of page measurements was a completely careless one on my part, I'm going to let the journal rest in MN until those sibs are finished with their pages. After which, I'm going to make a decision on where to send it, depending on who's up for it, and how close we are to NYC at that time.

Ainu Laire, thank you so much for the update!! Glad you had a fun time making your page, and I can't wait to see yours and Garf's! Also glad you think it's "awesome"-- with all of the various setbacks we've had, I get very excited to hear other people's excitement on it.

Thanks, all!

"....But there are times when a critic truly risks something, and that is in the discovery and defense of the new. Last night, I experienced something new, an extraordinary meal from a singularly unexpected source. To say that both the meal and its maker have challenged my preconceptions is a gross understatement. They have rocked me to my core. In the past, I have made no secret of my disdain for Chef Gusteau's famous motto: Anyone can cook. I realize that only now do I truly understand what he meant. Not everyone can become a great artist, but a great artist can come from anywhere. "

Glad to know things aren't "written in stone" and that the journal is making the go-'rounds, no matter the "weather", so to speak. This makes me feel EVER so much better!

Hope all the issues get worked out, and don't worry, Magpie or Laera, I second the notion--"It will arrive precisely when it means to"--lol.

She told me 22 by 14 inches and I made my page that size CrazyBlush I thought it seemed pretty big, but I folded it in half and mailed it anyway. Maybe she can slip the folded version into the book. Sounds like the ends will still be poking out, though.

On the good side, that gave me lots of room for photos Sly

Yes. That size gave us LOTS of room for photos. That's why I'm not sure I can use the design layout I created at all. Maybe we can start an alternate journal with that size. :P

I have the journal : I have the page size [In reply to] Can't Post

Page size

In tenths of inches (if you have a ruler that measures that way
width: 11.6 in
height : just shy of 7.3 in

In centimeters
29.4 cm
18.4 cm

You want to keep things off the first inch (2.5 cm) of left edge since that will be obscured when the pages are bound

I'll have to dig out a English ruler that measures in 16ths.

Don't worry, [In reply to] Can't Post

I can get it to fit without messing up any of the pictures. I do have to say, though, I love having your page with me; it's the only part of the journal that I have now!! And your page is definitely already part of the journal; I'm very sorry, Aunt Dora, for messing up the measuring (*cringing now as she remembers she's speaking to a math teacher*), but your page will work just with the rest journal, I promise!

Don't cringe. [In reply to] Can't Post

I always tell my students "Don't believe anything I tell you with numbers." I'm notorious for making copying mistakes in class.

I had a great time making the page, and I'm not worried :-D
