Congratulations! Everything looks very nice, and I'm sure we'll figure out everything pretty quickly.
I did have great feelings of insecurity when I set up my profile and couldn't do a preview. So I'm using this to do that. As a suggestion, when you finish editing your profile you should get a preview (as on the old board) so you can fix anything before embarassing yourself in public.
Or maybe I haven't read enough instructions? (I'm unlikely to be the only one with that failing)
Edit: and now that I've seen it, I need to point out that your 'horizontal rule'
in my footer is too wide for the message box and wraps around.

Yes, you can't preview your footer when you preview your post.
You'll have to do a test post (on feedback please). The good news is you can delete it if you delete it within 10 minutes. After that an Admin can delete it for you. 
If you mean previewing your profile, you're also right. You have to view it, then go back in and change it if you don't like it.

The profile interface is strangely lacking instructions, such as the maximum size of the avatars in pixels, and the accepted formats... trying out a PNG file, 100x100...
