on Off Topic.
Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..." Dwarves: "Pretty rings..." Men: "Pretty rings..." Sauron: "Mine's better." "Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauron’s master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded b*****d with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak. confuse than one would think really.....I work in the media, the CBC and the BBC get confused up here more often than one would imagine possible. The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and the British Broadcasting Corporation....
What's the matter, James? No glib remark? No pithy comeback?"

also from the BBC. Guillermo talks about The Hobbit towards the end. His enthusiasm and commitment really shine through! His book sounds intriguing too... On a side note, after some discussion recently in the RR about how to pronounce 'Smaug', I noticed that GDT pronounces it 'Smahg' (i.e. similar to 'smog' if you have an American accent), rather that 'Sm-ow-g', which is what Tolkien's pronunciation guide seems to suggest. But then later, he also pronounces 'Sauron' the same way ('S-ah-ron', not 'S-ow-ron'). I know that the filmmakers employ consultants to help the actors with the pronunciation of Tolkien's names and languages, and that the behind-the-scenes folks don't always bother trying to be that accurate themselves. But I do hope that GDT will give as much attention to this side of things as PJ did - it really helps to give that sense of "authenticity", I find.
They went in, and Sam shut the door. But even as he did so, he heard suddenly, deep and unstilled, the sigh and murmur of the Sea upon the shores of Middle-earth. From the unpublished Epilogue to the Lord of the Rings

I was actually going to ask that question here on the Hobbit Movie board. Thanks for the link *runs off to RR*
"Crows and Gibbets! What is the House of Eorl but a thatched barn where brigands drink in the reek and their brats roll around on the floor with their dogs! You are but a lesser son of greater sires."

I have always pronouced it as the English word 'smog', and, to be quite honest. I prefer that way. XD I wonder if the reading board has had a discussion about Gloin's name (since his father's name is Groin...). I got into a debate about that on LOTR Online whether Gloin was one syllable or two syllables (like "glow-in" or rather than how the film pronounced it, so you would have grow-in as his father's name...) Ah, Tolkien and languages. What's not to love?
My LiveJournal ~ My artwork and photography ~ My LOTR fan fiction NARF since age 8, when I refused to read the Hobbit because the cover looked boring and icky.
