*** TORN Tenth Anniversary Post *** : If you had a shot at Middle Earth Can't Post

Good evening, or morning as the case may be in your neck of the world ! Our last party feature is one that everyone seems to like and have a lot of fun with. Taking into account your personality, your present day career or even your fantasy career ( after all, we are dealing with a fantasy world, except it always seems so real does it not ?) and your hobbies and passions, which character or location in Middle Earth do you feel you best identify with ?

For example: Does your heart lie here ?

Or perhaps...is this a place one would like to..erm...dwell?

Maybe a City of Kings suits you better ?

( I hear the library in there is something to behold )

Then again, I seem to recall we have some splendid horse lovers here at TORn who would rival even Eomer !

So if you could catapult your present day self into this wonderful world ( minus orcs and all the others...) who and where would YOU be ?

** I'd like to take a moment here and thank everyone for participating in todays events and also send a huge shout-out and thank you to weaver, our organizer-in-chief for her extraordinary hard work and dedication. All the boards are a-buzz so be sure to make your rounds ! I also wish to express my sincere and heartfelt thanks to our Powers that Be again, as they deserve a second mention. Corvar, Calisuri, Tehanu and Xoanon, without your vision and love for this story and the films none of this would be possible. Thank You ! Heart **

There's something of everything here, The Shire and the Golden Wood and Gondor and kings' houses and inns and meadows and mountains all mixed.

....and there are Elves when you want them.

Hasn't something like this been done before?... [In reply to] Can't Post

I think I saw something like this looking throught the old threads, but it's good to do again.

It's so hard to choose! Probaly Edoras; my fondness of horses is enough to tempt me away from graceful Rivendell or comfortable Shire. I think I'm one of those horse lovers who could rival Eomer Smile

Oh, and I think you've forgotten Bree, Ithilien and Lothlorien. There's probaly some people who could identify with those places the most.

Sorry this (and all my other posts) are so short. It's embarrassing when I look at other people's posts which must of taken hours to write. Just won't to thank all the people who take so much effort to write long posts for everyone's enjoyment.

That is such a hard one [In reply to] Can't Post

I think that deep inside I'm related to Bilbo. I can't stop at just one place.
I love the Shire for all the greens and beautiful things. The love of the simple life, of food and merry making. For just having fun and letting the world be the world.
And of course living among the Elves in Rivendell. Listening to the singing and the storytelling. Sitting at a nice warm fireplace and enjoying a good banquet. (and of course walking around in one of those stunning dresses, a girls dream).
Minas Tirith. Marvelling at the White City. Strolling through the streets at the various levels. Having the best look over Pellenor Fields. And indeed, that wonderful library.
And than Edoras. Feeling the wind blow through your hair. Having a stunning view where ever you look. Lurking in a corner and watching the Rohirrim stroll by, I wouldn't object.

So I can't make up my mind. I think I will just join The Fellowship and wander around Middle Earth.

Simply for the fact that I love the outdoors, and being away from it all. The relaxing atmosphere, and peaceful lifestyle is hard to refuse in my book. Smile

Tis with the Elves ... [In reply to] Can't Post

My heart lies in Rivendell and Lothlorien - Im tORN between the two - though I know I can travel between either just by thinking about it.
I love the elegance of Lothlorien and the enviromental beauty and structure of Rivendell - maybe its the peace and quiet, and the waterfalls and the colours! So earthen.

Tolkien created many beautiful places, and I really do believe that somewhere and in some form, they exist.

Wonderful question!

Cheers

my head and my heart are at odds [In reply to] Can't Post

My head tells me I would be well suited for Rivendell as I greatly love to sing and I grew up in a family of storytellers and love the art.

But my heart yearns for Lothlorien. I can't even explain why... but that's where I would like to be, among those big trees.

Lothlorien... [In reply to] Can't Post

I remember the first time I watched FotR how my eyes grew wide and my breath caught at this scene. With Howard Shores ethereal laments in the background, I was completely drawn in to its beauty.

However, once we were treated to the scenes of Frodo et.al. making up their resting places and the mossy steps leading to the mirror that I sat up straight. I felt a shiver run through me and my olfactory senses sharpened. I could smell the cool moist air, feel the softness of the moss under my feet, hear the trickling of the soft water... I remember thinking,
" Here, I could stay."

I think I may have chosen Rivendell for its openess. You are always inside as well as outside. And no insects !

All Roads lead to Minas Tirith... [In reply to] Can't Post

While part of me would desire The Shire, I am sure I would, at least, travel often to Minas Tirith.

It is the Rome of the Ancient World, the Florence of the Renaissance, the Paris of the Illustration and today's London or NYC.

Knowledge dwells in Minas Tirith, and being someone who likes to constantly learn something new, and visit historical sites, well, I believe Minas Tirith would suit me well.

Rivendell or Minas Tirith [In reply to] Can't Post

I think I could make a living as an artist in either place- Rivendell certainly, and Minas Tirith if I had connections (ie. made friends with the king and queen). One thing is for sure, though- I'd definitely would like to visit both! Beautiful places.

I live in Ithilien. [In reply to] Can't Post

After the war, that is.
As long as we're talking fantasy worlds, in my own little head, I am one of the elves who came to Ithilien and helped restore it. I love to do landscaping, planting, growing, weeding, cutting out and replanting. So I live in Ithilien, with my boyfriend, Prince Faramir. Wink

Bag End and the Shire. I'd love to live there. As for a job? I tend to be a collector and love the hunt for treasures for my collections... so I guess I'd like to run a mathom house museum of sorts. I could take care of the Baggins/Gamgee/Took/Brandybuck treasures for them :D

Without a doubt [In reply to] Can't Post

I'd live in the Shire. I'm easily tired of all the hemming and hawing over the "Big Folk" towards the East.
The Shire is a straight shot from Rivendell (in peaceful times, which I assume we're discussing), and just close enough to the sea. :)

at heart, as much time as i spend outdoors hunting, gathering, just plain wandering. not sure where i'd like to do most of my wandering, prolly on the western half of ME, visit the hearty folk of the shire and enjoy the food and fun; and its not all that far to travel to the etheric calm of Rivendell; with a good romp at Bree in between!

Great question [In reply to] Can't Post

I would love to visit so many of the places in Middle Earth regularly, but the place I would choose to live in would be The Shire. It's peaceful, relaxing, and a place where I can live a simple life, smoking my pipe and enjoying nature.

Tricksy! [In reply to] Can't Post

I'd love to be able to explore the library at Minas Tirith, but the beauty of Rivendell and Rohan is too tempting to resist, as is the lure of an idyllic life in the Shire. However, I can't ride horses so can't rank myself amongst the Horsemasters. Also, like Frodo and Bilbo before him, I'd feel the need to escape the Shire and explore the realms around me. So between Rivendell & Minas Tirith I'd chose Rivendell (and learn to horse ride so I can go explore!) because of the sheer wisdom and beauty contained within it's boundries Smile

Well.... [In reply to] Can't Post

I would like to be like a member of the Fellowship, or specifically, Bilbo / Frodo.

That way, I can live in THE SHIRE, where I would absolutely love the peace and quaintness... The sheer greenery, the river, the pub, the bridge... I would hardly stay inside at any time of the day!

Then, I could go for a looong holiday to RIVENDELL. There, I could just soak up the magic in the air... go for long walks, read books, listen to the singing....

After that, I would go visit EDORAS. In the films, the place looked so melancholic, that would be the place I would go to, just for enjoying some good quiet time.

Then, I would leave for MINAS TIRITH. Majestic magnificence, There, I would walk around in the city all day.... select a nice viewing spit and look at Pelennor Fields... or just read some ancient book in the the Library.

Now, you people got me all misty-eyed again. Damn, now I won't sleep, even though it is 2 in the night!

If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.
