** TORN 10th Anniversary Party - Anagram Quiz!
Can't Post
We have lots of fun games for this celebration weekend, and here's an anagram quiz to puzzle over. Rules: Below are 35 anagrams, and your challenge is to unscramble each to find the real, Tolkien-y answers. I've indicated the total number of words for the correct answer. Some of the anagrams also indicate a letter: collect all the letters from the answers, and unscramble the final anagram. Those with the most correct answers will receive my secret recipe for chocolate chip cookies (US measurements). These are the best chocolate chip cookies you will ever have. Here's an example: Gag ma seem (4th letter, 2 words) Answer: Sam Gamgee, and the letter is G. Questions? No? So get started! Results will be posted on Monday. - Diurnal (7th letter, 1 word)
- dale new ion rum (2 words)

Complete answers in another post, but here's your prize: Anne’s Chocolate Chip Cookies makes about 4 1/2 dozen cookies 1 pound butter[1], room temperature 1 1/2 cup white sugar 1 1/2 cup Domino’s dark brown sugar[2] 4 extra-large eggs 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract 6 cups flour 1 1/2 teaspoons salt 1 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 2 bags chips[3] 3-4 cups nuts[4] Preheat oven to 325. Cut out grocery bags to fit on cookie sheets (make sure any inks or dies on the bags are facing down). If you are toasting nuts, spread them in a single layer on a lined cookie sheet and place in the preheated oven. The nuts take about 10 minutes to toast, but watch carefully. Take them out just when they are beginning to brown and you can smell them. Leave them on the cookie sheet to cool; they will continue to brown as they cool down. Mix all the ingredients together, being careful to mix in the nuts after they have cooled or your batter will be too runny. Batter should be quite heavy. Roll dough into balls a little bit larger than a ping-pong ball. Place dough balls on the lined cookie sheets but do not flatten them. I put twelve cookies on each sheet to allow the cookies to spread. Bake at 325 for 20 minutes. I use a timer and take the cookies out in exactly 20 minutes. Take the cookies out even if they do not look done. They will continue to cook and firm up as they cool down. After about 5 minutes, remove the cookies from the sheets and let them cool completely. [1] salted or unsalted butter is ok, but do not use margarine [2] the cookies taste different if you use light brown sugar or any other brand [3] I use an equal mixture of milk and semi-sweet chips. I buy my chips from a bulk food store because I think the chips are fresher. I am also a little generous measuring the amounts because you can never have too many chips! [4] I buy raw pecan pieces at the bulk food store and then toast the nuts on a brown-paper-lined cookie sheet for about 10 minutes. Watch the nuts carefully because they burn quickly. Take them out as soon as you can smell them. I have found that nuts from the grocery store do not toast well. They have been treated with a preservative to lengthen shelf life. The raw pecans toast very well.

#29 was the one that really stumped me -- I was about ready to go to The Encyclopedia of Arda when I got it -- go me! I love word games, so this was a delight to work on all week -- thanks! I did not look at the answers -- and you can trust me, I was raised Catholic; the only hint I spotted here was that they were alphabetical. That was a huge help! The final answer was The Fellowship of the Ring (thanks for making that easy); here are (hopefully) the rest! 1. Anduril 2. Arwen Undomiel 3. Athelas 4. Barrow Wight 5. Black Gate 6. Bullroarer Took 7. Durin's Bane 8. Elbereth Gilthoniel 9. Elessar 10. Elfstone 11. Elladan 12. Elrohir 13. Farmer Maggot 14. Ghan Buri Ghan 15. Glorfindel 16. Minas Morgul 17. Necromancer 18. Oliphaunt 19. Orodrim -- needed to check the Appendices for the spelling! 20. Osgliath 21. Paths of the Dead 22. Pelennor 23. Perianath 24. Rammas Echor -- another spelling nightmare! 25. Red Book of Westmarch 26. Ring of Barahir 27. Roheryn 28. Rosie Cotton 29. Silent Watchers 30. Thorongil 31. Valinor 32. White Council 33. White Tree 34. Witch King of Angmar 35. Worm Tongue Hope it's not too late for cookies! Thanks for a really tough quiz!
