**TORn 10th Anniversary Party Favor : A picturesque look at The Hobbit Can't Post

TORn's TENTH ANNIVERSARY! Wow!! In celebration of being here for 10 YEARS because of our Fearless Leaders' passion for the The Lord of the Rings and the films, I figured this was the perfect opportunity to share a madness I've been indulging in since last October whilst waiting for the filming of The Hobbit. So here goes.

Welcome to the investigation of all things Hobbity! As I paced and fretted about WHAT was going on with the writing, casting and plans for the upcoming films, I began to accumulate (compulsively hoard) images of the characters and locations of The Hobbit. These are a collection of story representations done by various artists and filmmakers. It's fascinating to see how much many of these pics resemble each other, and then suddenly have another variation shoot out of left field!

As always this is a work in progress and I will be adding many more. What I've done is to put together a mishmash of the pictures into a storyboard-esque progression for a very twisted telling of the tale. I've also got some off-shoots of specific topics (i.e collections of Gollum pics; or Lake-town; and An Unexpected Party).

These links will take you on an adventure that is gramma's world of obsession. A corner of it, anyway ;) You'll be able to use the arrows to go to the next pic (or previous) like a slideshow, and you can also click on any of the pics to expand them to a larger view.

Now... if you're like me and have dialup or you don't have Adobe, these links will drive you crazy. So I'm going to be adding alternate link options to access the pics, as well as labeling/tagging what I have here already; so stay tuned to this station for more from your local sponsor.

Wonderful! [In reply to] Can't Post

I haven't ever seen the cartoon Hobbit, so the images from that cracked me up (I've seen Thranduil before, but, well, it was a good refresher). I loved looking at all the artwork though.

You are very awesome, gramma! Great work.

And now a query... [In reply to] Can't Post

Just for conversations' sake... which of these would you like to see in our little circle banner thingy in the upper left-hand corner of our page? See... right up there. That's, of course, IF there were no problems with copyright, estates, permissions, etc. Just for the fun of it... which should we use?

Describe the pics, or, if you want to get REAL precise, give a section name and count how many pics into the page your choice is. Counting across from left to right, like if your were reading.

For example... Bilbo Baggins, 8th pic. Rivendell, 4th and 12th.

wowsie [In reply to] Can't Post

This is really cool. It's nice to know that the Hobbit has been so widely illustrated so that they have a little something to base things on while they develope everything else for the films. Woohoo, Gramma, awesome job.

Wow, Gramma! [In reply to] Can't Post

That really is incredible. What a treasure! Why, you'll be beating rolozo next.

I didn't realize until looking through your Bilbo page how much Ian Holm was made up to resemble Tim and Greg Hildebrandt's father.

"For DORA BAGGINS in memory of a LONG correspondence, with love from Bilbo; on a large wastebasket. Dora was Drogo's sister, and the eldest surviving female relative of Bilbo and Frodo; she was ninety-nine, and had written reams of good advice for more than half a century."

"Oh, here are just a few things I've accumulated )aka, compulsively hoarded...)**

You crack me up!
So here I am half an hour later, and I still did not get through all of your images! What a wonderful photo-gift to us, and you picked a great occasion to bestow it.

I used to have a black and white drawing of Gandalf standing outside the door, laughing, with all of the dwarves falling into Bag End on top of Bilbo. I can't recall the artist, but there was one image in your collection that was pretty close to it. I'll need to look at it again to be sure!

Will you be making this available via your footer so we can go to the Gramma Hobbit Gallery as often as we like? Heck, GDT will probably be a regular there, if you do!

Thanks so much for this labor of love -- well done!

Oh my Gramma [In reply to] Can't Post

Where did you find the time to do this?

This is wonderful, and I haven't even seen half of it.
But with all the fun stuff around here, my arm is starting to hurt with all the clicking and everything. So I'm putting this up to my favorites and will return to have a look at it at a later moment.

A big hug for you {{{HeartgrammaHeart}}} and thank you, thank you, thank you.

"Accumulate" indeed - this is mind-boggling! What a superb collection!

Maybe this should be made a "sticky", so we can refer back to it after the celebration...?

This is most deserving of a big "SQUEEE"! Thank you so much! Heart

Now you've done it. [In reply to] Can't Post

Well, I’ve added pics to many of the sections (Bag End, Bilbo, Lonely Mountain, Gollum, Beorn and Bard, Rivendell, locations… oh geez! Just have another peek ;) I’ve also created a few more. Inside the Lonely Mountain is barely started, and I have more to add to the others… but there you are :)

I’ve also added more to the story. Thanks for the link, Curious! I just loved Jansson’s work and have incorporated them into the story and the pertinent topical sections.

''What connects Nature to the spiritual, or requires the presence of the latter? In positive terms, as Alkis Kontos points out, when nature was still largely experienced as integral, alive and active, 'It was the spiritual dimension of the world, its enchanted, magical quality that rendered it infinite, not amenable to complete calculability; spirit could not be quanified; it permitted and invited mythologization.' And I would add, it still is and does.''

Looking at the land, and the water that flows
