And I still pine for a brief moment for Glorfindel, and for the Blue Fire of Gandalf! Can't Post

I know I have said it before. I will say it again. I really mean it. Its a passion, I cannot help it. Some here agree, and some are less sure, but be that as it may, I desprately hope that if ANY elf gets even the breifest of speaking cameos in these two films, other than the mains of Elrond, Galadriel and Arwen ( and no I did not overlook Haldir. . . I ommited him. I would rather Council Member and High Elf Glorfiendel have his moment than Haldir of Lorien now and forever. En Garde et Challange!) that Glorfindel is foremost amongst them. Friend and Follower of Gandalf since Valinor, terror of The Witch King of Angmar, noted member of The Council of The Wise. . . a jewel in the pantheon. ( he still needs to be played by the elf behind Elrond in ROTKs Minas Tirith scene too, have not forgotten that!)

Also, as the wheels begin to move, I am ever more hopeful that under Del Toro's capable leadership, The Hobbit will not severely hamper and omit the magical feats of a certain Gray Wizard in the way the Rings films did. In that area I hope Tolkien will be more closley hewed to than Jackson. The Wizards work in the Goblin king's hall should not be a whiff and a whimper. . . a roaring pillar of blue flame is in order. Again, a passion of mine.

"Hear me, hounds of Sauron, Gandalf is here! Fly if you value your foul skins, I will shrivel you from tail to snout if you step within this circle!"

I agree with that... [In reply to] Can't Post

I'd like to see some decent wizard magic in the goblin hall!

Though, I didn't entirely oppose the way Gandalf was depicted in the LoTR movies either. I think the more obvious use of "flashy" magic would fit better with the tone of The Hobbit.

I do agree that it would fit better in the Hobbit, however [In reply to] Can't Post

I still would have like to have seen a few more instances of it in the Rings films. Most notably I missed his confrontation with the Nine Wraith kings on Amon Sul, in which his "light and flame" could be seen from Weather Top from miles off like the "war beacons of olde." The other was the battle with the wargs in the mountains. The one I especially desired, as it showed the power of Gandalf The Gray, to contest, for a time, even with the gather host of The Nine, and in astounding fashion. The other was just a cool scene. I felt in some ways Gandalf was sold short. I did not expect or desire for him to be portrayed as some omnipotent being, but I felt in some places he was made to seem too much less than Saruman and his power in the first film failed even to rival the display that was attributed to Arwen. Fine for old hands, who knew better, but badly confounding for many new comers.

I also would have liked to have seen the Balrog's display of Sorcery, in His contest with Gandalf for control of the door to the Chamber of Marzabul. It would have made clear the sentient demonic nature of the ancient agent of Malice, and the fact that the Demons power extended far beyond strength of arms. It was not, in short, just a fire spewing troll, it was indeed a Demon of Might, A Fallen Maia who had played a role in the forming of the world, and a Captain of the hosts of Melkor The Morgoth.

All that said, I hope the Hobbit does better justice by Gandalf and his Wizardry, and I do hope it saves a line and a scene, however fleeting, for his friend Glorfindel.
