Has Hugo Weaving been confirmed for the Hobbit? IGN report says ...

I have been trying for the past 2 hours to get the http://au.movies.ign.com/...toar3a?download=true video to play so I can transcribe it ... but it seems to stop around 30 secs for me Can someone see what is actually being said? and transcribe the Elrond /Hugo part? I dont remember Hugo Weaving verbally confirming his role as Elrond, though I do remember something regarding Elrond being scripted into the Hobbit - but not 'confirmed' as such. Critical Mass video (same as IGN) intro says ... http://criticalmassreviews.blogspot.com/...g-and-jones-for.html In the interview below, Guillermo Del Toro talks about the current status of The Hobbit. Still in the writing stage, there's not much to report. But the little snippet of good news is, Ian McKellan, Andy Serkis and Hugo Weaving will be returning as Gandalf, Gollum and Elrond, respectively. As for Del Toro regular, Doug Jones... there's no word on who he'll play, or if he'll be involved in the production at all. But Del Toro just loves this guy's work, so I'm sure he'll find something for the lithe actor to do. This video still doesnt play past about 30 seconds for me ... so, is Elrond a confirmed return? Cheers Elven I

At the end, Guillermo's exact words are: "Right now the only ones that we have definitely coming back are the ones that are included in the book - so it's Hugo Weaving, Andy Serkis and Sir Ian McKellen. So other than that the rest are speculation until we finish the pages". I would think they have not signed them yet (maybe they have?) but it does indicate they've had conversations with those three and there's some understanding and agreement regarding reprisal of their roles. We've seen those statements publicly from both McKellen and Serkis but it would be news if Weaving has agreed to play Elrond again.

Elven, try it here - I've popped it onto Dougie's site (so non-Dougie fans, apologies for pics of Mr. J. strutting his stuff!). Scroll down and you'll find it. See if this version works. http://www.thedougjonesexperience.com/HB2DVD.htm G also says that they will be writing until well into the New Year, and then we should start getting some decent news. Personally, I doubt Guillermo would have said in the media that the actors were returning unless some solid commitments had been made by all three. I hope so. HM

yet Guillermo said he would let us know for sure ... Otherwise, if its true, its huge news indeed!! I cant see Guillermo saying it unless there is some truth to it. He has adamently said they would not say one thing to create expectation, only to debunk the rumour later. He's a man of his word .. I guess we just wait then for the official announcement ... Would be good for it to come now as Hugo is collecting a few more Aussie awards just recently. Cheers Elven x

<g> Thanks for the link HM--I too am having problems however. I think it must just be a very busy link right now! Yep, sounds like Hugo is in but they'd BETTER have Elrond in the story!:) That to me is a no-brainer like Ian and Andy. As for the other stuff, Guillermo's reasoning is sensible. Better safe than sorry. And even "accidental" casting seems to work well for Tolkien on film! And speaking of Mr. Jones--keep yr fingers crossed folks, I may actually get to meet him in Boston on Nov. 23--one on one *if* he is not mobbed by a sea of people! And even then just being in the same room with him will be divine... But I'm praying for a picture and a Doug Hug...wish me luck everybody! PS sorry I have not been in here much--now I know what "RL" means--FOR REAL--my life has been so crazy, I was even an hour and a half late for a flu shot Monday morning

One of my concerns is already goooone!!! Only one left! I think it will be very difficult for them if they decide to substitute key actors from LOTR - I just don't know how the public will react. I, personally, won't be happy at all. I can understand a younger actor for the Hobbit scenes of Bilbo but as about the rest of the actors.... nnno.

-Whatever news I have in the next couple of weeks as we learn them. We have talked about what characters MUST return since they are explicitly demanded by the book and we have talked about which ones would be great to have if accessing the Apendixed material and the many etc everyone know. This affects two things: Who comes back and how we SPLIT the two chapters. There are TWO possible breaks for the story in the reading of the book. Really, just to point where you can break the two films. Thus, by making a choice we may need a certain piece of casting o another. I know it all sound like a riddle but it is not. It is actually pretty clear to me. The Next 3 weeks are intensive "boot camp" weeks for the script in which Peter, Fran, Phil and myself are locked away a minimum of 12 hours a day with the CARDRS, OUTLINES, CHRONOLOGIES etc and finish sweating off the final spinal column of these puppies. Speculate away!! HUgs G the Bean Spiller

Thanks for the update Guillermo! I appreciate you taking the time from your (horrendously) busy schedule to fill us in. It's "meat and potatoes" time for the script so you don't want to get led astray! I know things will go smoothly, and best of luck to all! And we will speculate, as usual, with pleasure..!
