Presenting Her Royal Highness... Can't Post

Because "Arwen" would have been a boring title.

(Note: I resize the picture in the editor and it often doesn't resize. I really don't have any idea what the problem is, so apologies if the size does not turn out how I want it to turn out. Frown)

If, by chance, the silly image size editor actually does work for once, here's the original: http://i51.photobucket.com/...laire/Art/Arwen8.jpg

There are quite a few things that bug me about this pic, but all of those don't matter because I did the crown. The crown. 2 hours of not paying attention in GE classes went into that crown. Maybe more, I lost track after a while.

If, by chance, you are interested in recent non-LOTR work I've done, I have a entry of my recent stuff here. Older stuff can be found on my dA account in the link in my sig.

Any and all comments are appreciated!

Excellent! [In reply to] Can't Post

How do you do that? I'm lucky if I can draw a stick figure.Tongue

A little apart the Rangers sat, silent, in an ordered company, armed with spear and bow and sword. They were clad in cloaks of dark grey, and their hoods were cast now over helm and head....There was no gleam of stone or gold, nor any fair thing in all their gear and harness: nor did their riders bear any badge or token, save only that each cloak was pinned upon the left shoulder by a brooch of silver shaped like a rayed star.

I have to hang my head in shame for woefully neglecting this board altogether. One thing drives out another, as they say... at least as Butterbur says... but I thank you for mentioning it at Fiesta and bringing me to enjoy this! WOW!

The Crown is so spot on, and Arwen's gorgeous!

I'll have to come back and spend more time here. Thank you again, m'dear! And WELL DONE (as always :D)

Really like your portrait work. I'm working on some portraits myself at the moment, drawing my nephews as a Christmas present for my sister-in-law. Any tips you could pass on?

Oh goodness... [In reply to] Can't Post

Well, proportions are a biggie. Even if your shading is spot on, it doesn't make too much of a difference if the proportions are off.

I actually use my pencil as a bit of a measuring device to see if my proportions are correct. Don't start into too much detail until you get the basic features and measurements correct; I started on Arwen's eyes before I was sure that they were completely correct, and they weren't, so I had to work some magic on the shape of the face in order for the picture not to turn into a complete mess.

Good luck!

You really can draw and the shading, crown, hair are perfect! I think though that the eyes could have been a little bigger. Please don't take offence, it's just adviceSmile. I'm a drawer myself, I'm currently working on a drawing of Gimli which I hoping to finish eventually and I'd like to have everyone's opinion on it. Keep up the good work!!

Not having any artistic talent, I can't imagine what about the picture that bothers you.

It is wonderful!

I'll take any advice given. I think the problem is that they are too far apart from one another rather than size, but yes, there is definitely something not quite right with the eyes ><

You are so right [In reply to] Can't Post

I used to to a lot of drawing but really haven't done any for years now. Yesterday I was waiting with my class before I took them for their swimming lesson. They were all drawing so I joined them, and I was horrified to discover that my drawing looked like something I would have done when I was about 10!

It was a great idea to post your first portrait, as you are giving such a clear example of what can be done when you practise, practise, practise, and never give up.
Your skills with the pencil are most impressive and you have clearly worked very, very hard. Thanks for sharing your work with us. Smile

Wow, Laire, your artwork is breathtaking!

My favorite costume of Arwen's is the coronation outfit, and you've captured the crown perfectly.

Your use of color in the other drawings is quite unique, too. Well done!
