OK, we've all seen XMen 3 - why can't they have all of the "must have" actors peel back a few years? No problems casting Viggo, etc. ALSO - no problem with using the real Bilbo - Ian Holmes! Although to be fair, it would be a really hard slog for the guy. I also think we need to disqualify anyone who has appeared in other epic series - Mark Hamill and Robbie Coltrane spring to mind. Although, Ian McKellen would obviously be grandfathered in! (Trying to make up a new word here - Grandalfed in. didn't work.)

anyone think they should trash gollum's cave scene in the beginning of FOTR and make it more scary for The Hobbit? I vision a very dark cave with hardly any light and a gross dark green lake. There was too much light in the FOTR scene.

His nose is too pointy? Richard's fans have a name for his nose - they call it 'The National Treasure'. I think it's a lovely nose - the perfect nose for any self-respecting dragon-slaying hero!

I sayd it was better for an elf. He looks more like an elf then a drool inpiring romantic hero. His nose is fine for an elf, not for bard.

Is therr software to give RA a more manly nose? Otherwise he will have to play a elf if anything at all. He would alos trivialize the movie cause he is aready asociated with a woodsy swordsy period role. The success of the hobbit depenz on casting key roles creatifly, not acording to some tv casting ideaz!

How are your longbow skills? Tolkien describes Bard drawing the bowstring back as far as his ear. Wow - that requires a lot of muscle!

of you to say that. I do shoot a basic recurve bow (none of that pansy composite stuff for me) and yes it is hard to draw to your ear. Plus I worry about nicking my eye with the arrow flights. Anyway I was just trying to get this thread rocking again... from the looks of it, it's pretty lively now!

Bilbo Tom Hollander Thorin Kenneth Cranham Beorn Ray Stevenson Dain Ray Winstone Doug Jones as the Great Goblin As for the rest of the dwarves, I find it hard to cast any of the characters. In LOTR there was one dwarf, one elf, one human, etc... That is what made casting so important. In the Hobbit, the dwarves are basically extras. They follow along after Thorin and besides knowing that Balin is the lookout and Bombur is the fat one, there is really no other distinquishing charcteristic of each. Gloin, Oin, Fili, Kili, Dwalin, Bifur, Bofur, Dori, Nori, and Ori could all be played by one guy if you really wanted to. It would actually be interested if Andy Serkis or even John Rhys Davies would just play all of them. Kind of like the guy who played all the Oompa Loompas in the remake of Willy Wonka. Master of Laketown Stanley Tucci Bard Thomas Kretschmann
