Happy Birthday, Viggo Mortensen! (October 20th)

Wishing you luck, love and success in everything you do! Thank you for all the wonderful moments I spent with Aragorn, for all your devotion and talented acting! Cheers and have a very merry Birthday! I can't wait to see your Aragorn again Here is a quote by Viggo which I find very meaningful and beautiful so I would like to share it: "There's a bittersweet quality to the ending. No matter how shiny [it is], and how much there is to celebrate, there's a certain sadness there, you know -- even in the coronation, but certainly with Frodo's departure from Middle-Earth with the Elves and all that, and Bilbo's. What you get from this story, which is what you get from life, I think -- and which is another reason why people can apply it to their own existence, and to their own experience in life, in that there is a price paid, and that life, in some sense, is, as Galadriel terms it, a long defeat. And as Joseph Campbell said, all life is sorrowful. You can't change that. But we can change our attitude toward it. And what I got out of the experience of making these movies -- and I think that's what the book is about, it tells you that the journey, how you handle life, and how you treat others during life, is a lot more important than how long you'll live, or where you'll end up at the end of your life, or where you go when your life on earth is over, if you believe that you're going somewhere. It doesn't really matter. What's most important, I believe, and that's what you get from this story, is: How do you handle it?" Hollywood Jesus web site, February 1, 2004

A picture of you and my brother Malcolm from wrap day on History of Violence. You're efforts to expand beyond the role of Aragorn have not been in vain. We are all richer for your performances. Happy Birthday, and thank you for bringing so many intriguing characters to life. By the way you share a birthday with my mother-in-law.

but to answer, I lived in a different part of Ontario. Malcolm invited me to the wrap party but my daughter had a skipping competition that weekend. The stinger of it all was her "double unders" and freestyle partner didn't show up so she missed two of five events. I was pretty annoyed by that lol. Now back to our regularly schedule thread.

Thank you, Mr. Mortensen, for bringing my favorite character to life, and dedicating yourself completely to the role. Congratulations on hitting the big 5-0, and looking like you are still in your 30s. On a side note, Mr. Mortensen is probably one of the actors of LOTR that I want to meet the most, and not just because of the character he plays in the films. I have always wanted to discuss poetry, photography, drawing, and other elements of art with him. I love meeting artsy people that aren't completely absorbed in themselves, and from what I have seen and heard from others, he is certainly that type of guy.
My LJ My art site NARF since age 8, when I refused to read the Hobbit because the cover looked boring and icky.

Er, make that Viggo! The first spelling - with one "g" - was a hobbit name used by Tolkien in his early drafts of LotR. Yep. The Professor actually had a "Vigo" - and an "Orlando" - among his Shire-folk. Coincidence? Who knows...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "I desired dragons with a profound desire" "It struck me last night that you might write a fearfully good romantic drama, with as much of the 'supernatural' as you cared to introduce. Have you ever thought of it?" -Geoffrey B. Smith, letter to JRR Tolkien, 1915
Hadn't heard that speech from him before, but not only is it so true, but that's the kind of thoughtful man he is. (And what a man!)
