Doug Adams book will be tied in to 'another major release'

Doug Adams has just announced that the release of his book, The Music of the LOTR Films, will be tied in to 'another major release'. The downside is they are no longer considering November, 2008 as a potential release date. The upside, however, is that the whole project will take on a larger scale. Doug writes: Deluxe just got deluxe-er
again
heck, even standard got deluxe-er this time! Oh, and if you're still not convinced, let it be noted that you're also likely to get significantly more unused music in your hands this way. Yes, I said "significantly."
The intriguing question that remains is, what is this other 'major release'? Let the speculation begin. :-) Read more at Doug's blog.

What I really want and what we may get, wonderful as it will be, I'm sure, is not always the same thing. I want a lot and keep hoping for, well, for more of what we have been so lucky to have from our film-family. So, what will this major release be? Can't begin to guess. Still, I want Doug Adams and Howard Shore over for dinner (okay, others can come), and I want Fran and Philippa to spend a week talking about the lyrics and the music and the movies - just hang around with us geeks. Well, you get the idea. We uber-geeks (proud to be one) can't get enough, can we? I want everything to do with these films and this score but I will be happy for whatever I can get. Great story, my friend. hob PS: Do we thank you for that piece on the BB's birthday party Saturday, too?

I don't have anything to play Blue Ray, and I would hate the thought of there being deleted scenes out there that I wouldn't be able to see!
"That is one thing that Men call 'hope.' Amdir we call it, 'looking up.' But there is another which is founded deeper. Estel we call it, that is 'trust.' It is not defeated by the ways of the world, for it does not come from experience, but from our nature and First Being. If we are indeed the Eruhin, the Children of the One, then He will not suffer Himself to be deprived of His own, not by any enemy, not even by ourselves. This is the last foundation of estel, which we keep even when we contemplate the End. Of all His designs the issue must be for His children's joy." Still, I want Doug Adams and Howard Shore over for dinner (okay, others can come) That would be nice! I'd be sure to have all of my (well, Menelwyn's) music stuff out on display. I'd come up with a list of questions to ask!!

One plays a kind of synopsis version of the entire trilogy. That's been around awhile. The other plays the entire score for the FOTR theatrical release movie. (I'm pretty sure it's theatrical...) live while the movie is projected on screen. I don't know if this has actually made it to the US, yet. ps cool avatar. ;^)

I've always maintained that the unused music should be cued with the unused scenes (wherever relevant ofc) and I think with Bluray's capacity, noone's going to be satisfied with simply the EEs in Uber-High-Res. I mean, there's got to be something else, even if it isn't this, but wouldn't it be nice if it WAS this? I think I'm getting ahead of myself... as always, it's probably best to watch and wait and not spasm out of control
Crows and Gibbets! What is The House Of Eorl but a thatched barn where brigands drink in the reek, and their brats roll around on the floor with their dogs! You are but a lesser son of greater Sires.

although... I suppose only a 'girl' would call it cute. From the Ongoing Discussion thread on Doug's blog:
Doug: I actually drove with Howard and his wife to the opera house (in LA to see The Fly) Saturday night. Upon arrival, I found that will call had somehow managed to lose my ticket. After several minutes of back and forth (they though I was trying to scam them!), Howard leaned his head in the ticket window and said, "Can you just please give him a ticket!?" Magpie: LOL! okay... what was Howard's intonation for this? I can just picture this slight smile on his face. Doug: Bemused frustration. :)

Me too, actually. You know, Shore sounds like a pretty nice guy. That just seems kind of rare for composers (ever heard an interview with Elfman? I love him, but he's not necessarily someone I'd like to meet). Ok, so yes, that goes on my list of "Things I'd Love but are Never Actually Going to Happen"- Shore and Adams over for dinner (along with me being allowed to ask them whatever music questions I want). (thanks, Hobbitlove, for the idea! You can come, too!)

It seems to me that it has to be of a certain significance. The 'other project' wouldn't be just a particular concert somewhere, right? I mean, you wouldn't market that so heavily to start tie ins. You market a concert to the people who live nearby... or at least on the same continent. Additionally, I think sometimes soundtrack fans overestimate the strength of their community. It has internal strength and strong devotion but it doesn't have breadth. It doesn't span a wide demographic. To be honest, I'm not sure I would buy a dvd of the symphony and I'm a fairly devoted fan. So my brain kind of wanders around a number of possibilities for upcoming projects that would meat a certain threshold of importance that a tie in would be of some benefit to both parties. It certainly could be related to another music project. But I can't come up with one that meets my threshold. Not that it needs to meet my threshold only that I'm just using that to work things out. I think the filming aspect of it might be a clue of some sort and the fact that we'll get 'significantly' more music. I'm not being terribly convinced about any of my ideas at the moment. But then I'm comfortable with mystery so I'm not highly motivated, either.

I'm going to go all geeky and say that I hope the release of your book is tied to a soon to be released BLU RAY edition of the EEs, with even more extended scenes. The electronics stores (and book stores!) won't know what hit them.

Did you get to talk to him about music? That's so cool!!! He was my second-favorite composer ever, and the first composer that I ever actually followed (as in, "Laera, do you want to go see the Hulk this summer?" "Oh, sure! I heard Elfman did the music, so. it must be good!"). I'm glad to hear that he's a nice guy. I've heard a couple of interviews with him, and he seemed kind of assertive (fiery, that's a good way of putting it), but I guess that's not really a great way to decide on whether someone's nice or not (and I just like nice people). And no blood, don't worry. (which is lucky for you, because it's Talk Like A Pirate Day! Arrrr!)

But we are eager. My request is that you please release the book, whenever it is ready, to coincide with either my birthday or some other gift giving event! (Just kidding. I am really looking forward to this.)

Alan in a comment to Doug's blog entry noticed that Doug wrote this:
"this choice will make the Big Reveal even more momentous"
and that Big Reveal was capitalized : B R suggesting perhaps 'Blu Ray'? I tell you, Doug is just wicked enough to engage in this sort of clue baiting and has done similar things in the past.
