There and Back Again - A Little Orc's Tale Can't Post

The following video is one of the most unique and creative LOTR themed fan films we have ever seen - so we are super glad to share it with you! The film, shot in black and white silent film style, tells the story of a little orc who happens upon two lost hobbits in Middle Earth. Will they be lead into Saruman's hands or will the little orc help them find their friends? Check out the video on YouTube or view it below. [YouTube]

=) Very cool! // [In reply to] Can't Post

There is a pleasure in the pathless woods,
There is a rapture on the lonely shore,
There is society, where none intrudes,
By the deep sea, and music in its roar:
I love not man the less, but Nature more,
From these our interviews, in which I steal
From all I may be, or have been before,
To mingle with the Universe, and feel
What I can ne'er express, yet cannot all conceal.

I wasn't sure at first, but I did like it! A kind of Laurel and Hardy type of atmosphere and the costumes were great!

The Arms of Middle-earth: A Sword, A Pan, and a nice attitude. I loved it towards the end when Sam was wiping off Frodo's sleeve.

Those orcs were PRECIOUS!

Thanks so much! Loved it :D

Clever, creative and cute! [In reply to] Can't Post

I really enjoyed this little silent movie, complete with old-timey piano score! Hopefully the filmmakers will do more in this vein. Very well done!

Thank you for your kind words. We filmed the frying pan backwards and then reversed it: "Sam" placed it against my forehead and yanked it away.

and well done!!!

Your blank & white format and accompanying music set it all off perfectly!

Now, I watched the 3 LotR films an average of 57 times each at the theaters, and I have to admit that I haven't watched yours quite that often... but I'm working on it ;)

Please tell your cohorts/Fellowship WELL DONE for me!! *high five*

Your film had me chuckling; that was very novel! And welcome to TORn.

The one at 2:15 of the film looks exactly like the one that the 4 hobbits hide underneath to escape the Black Rider in FOTR. Go look!

That was very well done. I loved Gimli! He's got the eyes down perfectly. Nice details on all the costumes, too!

More please. Smile

You captured so much of the look and feel of the films I felt like I was back in Middle Earth there for a moment...

Thanks for sharing your inspired take on the tale. Hope you are considering developing your talents further or already gainfully employed someplace along the film lines -- keep up the good work!

She does do a lovely Gimli [In reply to] Can't Post

Yes, Gimli was a girl. In fact, all of them were girls except the two big Orcs who were not so nice to the Littlest Orc.

We had this group come to our final Oscar Party and perform because they do some terrific little musical numbers in their amazing costumes. And then, of course, we had them as speakers at ORC because there were so many different topics to discuss, from leatherwork, to effects make up, to distressing armor. Yes, TORn loves it's costumers, and this little short film was just too adorable not share.

Is this a female orc flick ? [In reply to] Can't Post

I wanted to write a story about a little orc that has an ugly nice streak & now you've gone and done it as a video. I'm ruined! Doesn't matter anyhow. I can't write. Laugh

But I am glad someone did it. Kind of restores my faith in...well never mind.

B&W silent film. Who would have guessed. I like the circling around the camera & how the orc gets to carry the 'Uruk-Hai' banner at the end.

Female Orc? [In reply to] Can't Post

It wasn't female by design but by coincidence. The two big orcs were played by guys, Gary Ingram and Mike Acebo. Gary plays both orcs in close up (he switched masks). Ed Martinez was cinematographer; when the Little Orc is on camera, he's behind it. When she's not on camera, the it's me filming. I originally scripted two short films, the second had indoor shots, but they didn't match the outdoors. One of these days I'll post the "deleted scenes". We actually had a Gandalf too, but he didn't make the cut!

Orcs can't be ginger-mud men [In reply to] Can't Post

Actually I was trying to (in jest) compare this to a 'Chick Flick', but for female orcs. But of course when I have come to the point of having to explain, it reflects only (more) shame & infamy, on moi! Laugh

And as an advocate of the exsistance of female orcs, or at least female something being involved, can never pass up a chance to mention it. I just don't buy the idea that orcs and goblins are grown in the dirt like potatoes.

By the way, welcome. Smile
