As a lifetime fan of Mr Tolkien, the first thing one has to do is set aside the notes written in the appendix. The next thing you have to do is realise the majestorial Elves and the High Men of the Blessed realm will be reduced; everything is smaller. The world, the magic. Then you can hunt for Mr Tolkien's themes in the narrative they have chosen. Sauron has the chance to look at redemption, thanks to Adar, and yet the one who undermines it is the proud She-Elf. He then moves on to do all the things he has been doing since he held Tol-in-Gaurhoth: manipulates, seduces, exploits weakness, vainglorious hubris and loss. The Dwarves are beset by the greed of bright things and their love of their own ingenuity. They have always delved too deeply. The Elves' narrative suffers from a convoluted storyline (The swim and hunt for Sauron of Galadriel, the Mithril Tree). But Galadriel echoes the pride of the She Elf who left Aman, more so the final version of that story and the one who fought at Alqualonde. Numenor looks great, the men act low, and they are seriously fickle. Their story will not come into its own until we are heading directly for the downfall and persecution of the faithful. Rhun with the star sign the mystics, and Pallando has been hijacked thus far by the return of the Elf of the Wand. I am inclined to say, ask me in six years. I am attached to Ismael as a Silvan Elf, have some doubts about Elrond and Gilgalad, and did not need the Hobbits. The more they explore authentic characters, Pallando and hopefully Alatar, the downfall of Moria, the Entwives and Elendil's family, and steer the three eleven rings to their destiny, the more they are likely to be cherished by deep fans and seen as a worthy addition to the tradition. To return to veracity, I like the way the rings have been forged as opposed to a lot of Elf rings that were stolen. It sounds like advice, but the more you allow the politics of now (DEI, Amazon) to be your guide, the greater the chance you will not simply look at the simple thought that does this add to your need for Tolkien. PS I am currently in Warwickshire, so maybe the Elves of Kortirion have set aside my ban from the site and allowed me to pass in.
