'April, come she will' - it's Fiesta time again! Come on in!

(with apologies to Simon and Garfunkel) What song suits your season? Welcome to our first April Fiesta of the year! It's spring for some, with all the fresh beauty of new flowers and birdsong; autumn for others, with harvest time and 'putting the garden to bed' for the winter. Whatever the weather, there's a warm welcome at The Green Hobbit's bar. Take some time out from whatever you've been doing, pull up a bar stool and share your seasonal news over a glass of ale, a plough-hobbit's lunch-type feast or a munchable slice of apple pie! My little corner of The Shire is without its greenhouse for a while; the old one's been taken down and the new one isn't arriving until 7th May. I'm looking forward to that! The infant tomatoes are on the windowledge for the time being. Cheers, folks!

Greetings, GH,a slice of apple pie would be a nice treat! With a slice of Cheddar to accompany it, of course. What a time to be without the greenhouse! Do you have a clutter of other plantings along with the tomatoes inside the house, while you wait? I've got to get to the local nursery this week for seeds and a browse around. Time to clean some of the leave-clutter out of the planters - I'm thinking of putting snapdragons and nasturtiums in a porch-railing box. Crocuses are blooming, but my daffodils have not yet flowered, it's still been getting down to freezing at nights. Have a fun weekend! Will you be visiting with the grandsons? Here's the Simon and Garfunkel version of your song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PYD-DIggB2k

I'm ahead of you weather-wise; crocuses are all done, as are some of the daffs. Others are still flowering and tulips are putting on a good show, with primulas. Honesty, forget-me-nots and grape hyacinths add blue and purple accents to the garden. Those feel a bit early actually; we've only had a few light frosts, no hard freezes here, so the ground never really cooled down completely. I don't grow as much from seed as I used to; inside I have snapdragons and four kinds of tomatoes, outside under cover I have seedlings of mallow and sweet peas ready to plant out properly - but there are high winds forecast so I'll keep those under cover a little longer. Snapdragons will look lovely in a box with nasturtiums; very colourful and tempting for the pollinators too. I love watching bees wriggle their way into snapdragon flowers! I'm having elevenses with the family on Sunday and handing over a gift-bagged selection of small tasty eggs; the large boxed Easter eggs are very wasteful and for the boys it's all about the amount of chocolate, not the amount of cardboard or the look of the thing! Enjoy your weekend; thanks for linking the song.

FINALLY! Although, mine are still quite sleepy yet :) You're going to have so much fun setting up your new greenhouse! Are you going to knit a special something to hang in the corner? :) There's a song that always refreshes me like Spring. An oldie by Johnny Nash. (sorry about the preview :{ ) I can see clearly now..." I hope this link works. If not, look it up! It's worth the trip :) I just went and saw "Project Hail Mary" at the theater again. Oh man... I fall in love with it the more I see it! Truly a wonderful escape into... you'll see ;) Go here to take a peek. I think I'll grab a piece of that apple pie and toss a glob of ice cream on top!!! THANK YOU GH! And thanks for taking such great care of us! Have a great weekend!

I am a poor knitter! Some little solar lights in the greenhouse would be rather fun, though. First time I read what you'd written, I thought 'Johhny Cash'? He hasn't done a version of that, has he? I really should pay more attention... yeesh. A version of that song was used in a coffee advert years ago; simple but effective. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8dbGxHiAipE That Project Hail Mary looks weird and wonderful! Haven't been to the cinema in a long time, I've sort of got out of the habit. Might give it a whirl. Have a good weekend - cheers!

My body hurts. I scraped, sanded and painted the garage yesterday and my muscles are telling me off. Today's another sunny day so I'll get a second coat on (first coat on the main doors, as they needed some patches of underpaint on bare wood), all to make the doors and trim match the new colour of house, which was painted about two years ago. Once all that's done, I'm doing NOTHING but reading for the rest of the day. (I've been rewatching the Firefly series and all through yesterday's painting I had either the show's theme song or The Hero on Canton going through my head - both of them fun songs, but not on repeat. Ugh.) I can smell my hot cross buns toasting the oven. Have a great Easter, everyone!

And a Happy Easter, too, are you going to have a special day with your daughter and grandson? How are their house repairs and upgrades coming along? Enjoy the Spring weather, and do give the furry ones scritchies from me!

I've sort of got out of the habit. I used to be a frequent film-goer but the years after the Covid lockdowns, when the movie fare was weak, didn't entice me back. Now we're finally starting to get a full schedule of good films so I'm making an effort to get back into the habit.

D'you know, I've never tried a margarita? I must remedy that sometime. Pain-killers on the side, maybe, on this occasion? Hope the stiffness wears off fast! Good job done, though. I think sanding down is my least favourite job. My hands get tired very easily nowadays, so anything manual and heavy-duty has to be done in small doses with plenty of tea breaks. It's annoying when a tune won't leave you alone, even if it's one you like! Enjoy the hot cross buns; I'm rather 'old school' with those. Although there are many different flavours available these days, I still prefer the traditional lightly spiced fruited ones. Have a good weekend!

Not the owie part; but that you got SO MUCH DONE before the cold weather really moves in. The prep of the wood, to me, is more of a challenge than just getting to the painting. Matching the trim with the house must look so great :) Great of the weather to cooperate so you could just get it done. Now I'm hungry for a warm cross buns! Have a GREAT week and weekend!

That looked like a lot of fun to do. I can still touch my toes, but I've never been able to do the splits. One of my Pilates teacher's favourite phrases is 'movement is medicine' which I definitely agree with - within reason, of course!
