*gets keys, opens door* Welcome to the Equinox Fiesta! Can't Post

Greetings, all and sundry, it's time for Friday Fiesta! It's also the Equinox today - the official start of Spring or Autumn. Are you getting your plantings ready, or harvesting the last of summer's veggies?

Our esteemed barmistress, Altaira, is currently curating Bilbo's wine cellar, so I shall be your hostess today. The weather is warming up in the U.S., the blender is prepped for some cooling drinks, and there's a variety of sandwiches on the buffet - and even trays of donuts and bagels. I stopped by the local bakery this morning, which has annually won awards for its quality and variety. Their specialty this month is Irish Creme Donut (green cream filling with green icing and sprinkles).

Did you celebrate St. Patrick's Day? Tell us your plans for the weekend and week!

*puts quarters on juke box* How about some rousing music for the occasion!

I thought I'd be late [In reply to] Can't Post

but it appears I'm - possibly for the first time - the first! Getting onto the boards was slow. Equinox greetings to whoever manages to turn up! Our equinox has been blessed with fine sunny weather; feeling the returning strength in the sun is always cheering. Equinox for me also means windowledges full of seedlings! I saved seed from some sturdy snapdragons (antirrhinums) in autumn and am growing them for myself and my daughter. The tomatoes are also popping through and in the greenhouse is a tray of annual lavatera 'Pink Blush' which will beautify the garden later in summer.
I've just spent a few days in the glorious old city of York (my daughter tended the seedlings in my absence) admiring all the quirky old shops and spending time with friends who moved up there last spring to spend more time with grandchildren. York has a beer shop/pub/restaurant called 'The House of Trembling Madness' - now that's what I call quirky!
Recently my daughter took me to see a Scottish band called 'Blazin' Fiddles' - let's get the party started with some of their toe-tapping traditional music. Cheers, all!

A grand way to start the Spring! [In reply to] Can't Post

Thank you for more "Blazin' Fiddles"!

Yes, the Boards are so "wonky", I have to either wait & wait, or they pop right up. Glad you were able to get on!

Seems like your seedlings are happily growing, and that reminds me, I need to get the snapdragon seeds planted. I should have saved some from last year's plants, they were blooming well into Autumn. How large will the lavatera grow to be?

York is wonderfully ancient! What an amusing name for a pub, makes one wonder what inspired it. Was this your first time being able to go exploring in that old city?

Did I hear some keys jangling? *Springs into action* ;) [In reply to] Can't Post

Thank you so much for grabbing the keys, dernwyn!

I haven't been able to prepare for my typical Spring activity. I have some damaged trees to clear, clean up the yard from winter debris, and clear out areas of brush/branches before the poison ivy/oak wakes up! But I DID hear my 4th sign of Spring with a chatter-box Robin!

I looked around but couldn't see it as I was on my way Friday (yesterday) to go get daughter and drive her to 3 of the 4 appointments she missed with the bad weather last Friday & Monday in 2 different cities. We clocked 360 miles from 8am to 6pm!

Thankfully her ankle surgeon gave her a green light for NO MORE VISITS! :D He's delighted with her progress and left it with call me if you have a problem. So that will save about 160 of those miles travelled every 2 weeks. *happy clapping* She has a long way to go before she's healed enough to drive; but we're "one step" closer! I also fixed her bad generator and cleared fallen branches on her fence and shed from the ice/snow storm that knocked out her power for 3 days. A towering & broad pine tree fell across their short dead-end road trapping a dozen or so houses. As I was driving that last 20+ miles to her house, I saw a convoy of at least 25 power utility trucks going the other direction. There are still areas without power all around her.

I think I'll grab a hot chocolate with a bit of Kahlua ;)

Thanks again for taking care of us, dernwyn! Enjoy your Spring prep! :D

York Madness ;) [In reply to] Can't Post

York sounds like so much fun! It's one of those places where you have to leave a lot of time to make it through all the shops :D They should pipe "Blazing Fiddles" in the shops' background music ;)

I'm glad your seedlings are doing so well. Your gardens are going to shine this year :D

Have a GREAT SPRING WEEKEND!

That's great to hear! [In reply to] Can't Post

Your daughter has gone through so much, it's great to know that she's healing well and has one less doctor to keep up with.

Those storms did make a mess of the trees, didn't they. The power companies have been on full standby alert this winter, those brave folks clearing and fixing the poles and wires. I hope your trees weren't too badly damaged!

Let's see about some cocoa and Kahlua. I'll add some 'mallows to that.

The Girl Scouts are at the local large grocery store on weekends now. Can't resist the Thin Mints and Samoas! Laugh

Safe travels to you folks with all the mileage you have to put on! Have you been able to use daughter's Subaru for some trips?

Yummmm! Thank you! :D [In reply to] Can't Post

Thankfully I didn't have any damage during those storms. Just dancing around very bad roads.

Those power workers always have my gratitude and sympathy. The storms were still going on when they're trying to discover and get to the damage, working around the clock while it's still storming with ice, blizzard white-out and high winds where my daughter is.

My Dad's little brother (22yo) was a utility line worker and was working a storm when he fell and died. I absolutely think of him during these storms. He was waiting for orders from the Army during WWII. I've often thought he might have been one of those who would have survived the war had he been inducted right away. He is in the military records as enlisted though not yet assigned. *sigh*

We haven't used her car yet. But with these gas prices, I'm going to climb into that more mileage-friendly beast :)

He died a hero. [In reply to] Can't Post

Absolutely. I feel sorry for your family, that he was gone from them so soon. But working during one of these storms: he was a hero. Heart

Stay safe and warm, all of you!

Thanks for getting the party started, dernwyn! [In reply to] Can't Post

I completely forgot about St. Patrick's Day, but while running errands I saw quite a few people having a lot of fun with it including one couple dressed all in green complete with hats and socks.

I hope you had a wonderful weekend! Smile

Happy seedlings [In reply to] Can't Post

It sounds like many of your seeds come from your own plants. Nice! It makes the next season's babies more meaningful. It sounds like you're well on the way to a lovely summer garden!

York is on my and B.G.'s list of places we'd like to visit. We've been to Bath and Oxford, and love the pub-centric cities of the U.K.. Love 'The Hose of Trembling Madness', lol.

Have a great week! Heart

You're most welcome! [In reply to] Can't Post

Now, did you bring some Guinness for the party? Or green beer? Laugh

It's a busy weekend, and busy week, just wish it would warm up a bit more around here - it's still going into freezing temps at night. Come on, Spring, where are you?

Enjoy your weekend, too! Smile
