Tolkien's Glee Can't Post

My review of the book Tolkien’s Glee: A Reading of the Songs in “The Hobbit” and “The Lord of the Rings” by John R. Holmes is up at The Journal of Tolkien Research.

Tolkien’s Glee: A Reading of the Songs in “The Hobbit” and “The Lord of the Rings” (2025) by John R. Holmes

This review was a little outside my normal wheelhouse, but I enjoyed reading the book and learned some very interesting things.

Very nice review! [In reply to] Can't Post

As a (very) amateur musician, I found your review interesting, and will keep an eye out for the book.

By the way, regarding your Footnote 7: "A Elbereth Gilthoniel" is the longest section of Sindarin in LOTR, while "Namarie" is the longest piece of Quenya, which is presumably what Holmes was thinking of, though referring to them both as just "Elvish" has led to a confusing bit of ambiguity.
