Let's celebrate another Fiesta Friday!! Can't Post

Woohoo! It's Friday again *and* the start of the 3-day Memorial Day weekend here in the U.S..

The official beginning of summer here, it's living up to it in the form of amazing, summery, but not too hot weather.

This weekend, I'll be purging and rearranging things in our kitchen. In the process of acquiring new toys (such as an espresso/cappuccino maker - one of the push-a-button for dummies ones (but still makes delicious coffee)), having set places for old things that are still used, and not using some old things altogether, nothing that's related is next to each other. Cupboard space is also badly in need of reorganizing and purging of the old to make room for the new. Of course, it's a perfect opportunity to give everything a good scrub and clean, so all-in-all it will be a busy, but satisfying few days.

What do you have planned for the weekend? The barbecue and the blenders are set up and ready to go, so have at it and let us know!!

*puts quarters on juke box* something fun, please!!

Have a wonderful weekend!!!

A Plunge into Purging! Good Plan :D [In reply to] Can't Post

I've been thinking REAL HARD about doing that... especially since I'm totally out of room for old or new stuff. My Aunt is in that "give it away" mode to such an degree that there's very little around that identifies as Her. But she feels comforted by it, so I'm helping by taking her bread maker, dirt devil hand vacuum, and a glass plate used for those HUGE candles. I finally got down to visit her and we split a couple of Applebees (Restaurant) lunch plates half-n-half. Worked out great since we couldn't decide what we wanted independently. One of THOSE days where we just couldn't make up our minds.

Yes...it's officially a solid Spring going on; but all week the temps have been in the 50s. Jacket weather and kinda rainy... so not a lot of yardwork getting done.

Monday (Memorial Day) there's one of those HUGE flea markets going on about an hour West of me. So if the weather is good, I'm definitely going to hit that action! ELEPHANT EAR HERE I COME!

I hope you have a wonderful weekend and get your purge totally accomplished! :D Thanks for taking such great care of us!

Ooh, that is a great "toy"! [In reply to] Can't Post

An espresso/cappuccino maker that brews them without fuss!

Just an iced tea for me today, please...gotta prepare for a colonoscopy next week. Going to be spending Memorial Day at home. Tongue

But - the day after the procedure, we'll be going on a senior bus day trip to Boston, to the JFK Museum, then out for lunch on the waterfront, and then a city tour. Supposed to be a pleasant day for an excursion! Cool

Have fun with the cleaning and re-organizing, it does give you a nice feeling of satisfaction once it's all done! Smile

*taps screen* Is this thing working? [In reply to] Can't Post

I'll sneak in between bot-surges.

Yesterday I did some pruning of the trees and shrubs in front of my house, so that people can use the footpath without ducking or zig-zagging. It looks great but boy am I sore - the hot shower this morning was delicious.

This afternoon I'll be using my pie-maker for the first time! It was a Christmas gift but thought I'd wait for the cooler months before cracking it open. I'm going with a fruit filling: apple and rhubarb. Wish me luck!

Have a great weekend, everyone.

Bean Town! [In reply to] Can't Post

I worked 'part-time' there for many months when I was traveling for my job. 4 1/2 days there, then home for the weekend. We stayed and worked in Charlestown across the river, but went into Boston almost every night. The project manager treated, so we didn't exactly argue. If you see the Hood Dairy blimp, that was our client.

Sounds like you'll have a much better end to the week than beginning/middle, so enjoy the day-trip at least! Heart

Yes! A temporary reprieve! [In reply to] Can't Post

Oooh. A pie-maker? I had to google it. Is it a mini? Let me know how it works. Even though we finally found a pie shop here, I'd love to be able to make meat pies at home.

Yes, I probably told this story, but I was driving down the main street in a nearby town and literally did a double take when I saw a New Zealand flag flying in front of a shop. I *had* to turn around to see what it was, and lo and behold, it was a meat pie shop! So, I *had* to park and go in and buy some pies, and lo and behold, they were delicious! The owner is from NZ. They bake them in Boulder and bring them to the town. They must be doing well because we've seen that they're in several towns and cities across the U.S.

Congrats on the tree and shrub purging. Sounds like it was good exercise. You deserve a few nice, hot bites of fruit pie!

What a week you've got coming! [In reply to] Can't Post

Ups and downers, fersher! I've finally hit the age that I don't HAVE to do the colonoscopies anymore. It doesn't run on either side of my parents' families... so I cheerfully chided NO THANKS! :D I'm glad you're following it up with a great Boston adventure :D It sounds wonderful! My Balti daughter wants the two of us to do a Boston trip this year... so I'm really looking forward to it. Depends on if her job stays intact.

Have a GREAT TIME... in Boston!!! ;)

Big job done well :D [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm so glad you're happy with your pruning outcome. Makes the sore muscles a little more like a badge of accomplishment than, "What was I thinking?" I usually look back at my pruning and think, "Whoa. I should have stopped to check more often!" ;)

That pie sounds Wonderful! Apple and Rhubarb pies are 2 of my favourites, and I usually hear of Strawberry and Rhubarb pies... so I really hope you're happy with your pie! I love pie. Got Ice Cream? ;)

Have a wonderful week, m'dear!

A pie-maker? [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm not familiar with those! Does it mix the crust for you? Or do you put in a crust, fill it, then put on a lid and let it do its thing?

Ha! Love it that you spotted an NZ pie shop. :D [In reply to] Can't Post

Meat pies are like pizza: when they're bad, they're still pretty good; but when they're good they're amaaaazing. Laugh

My pie-maker makes four pies at a go, and the pies are pretty sizeable - half would be plenty for a dessert pie like these. As usual, most of the work goes into prep; the cooking itself just took 10 minutes.

Store-bought pastry, [In reply to] Can't Post

make your own filling, assemble, then close the lid like you do for a sandwich press - then voila, a hot meal in 10 minutes. Cool

Placing the pastry in correctly on what is essentially a hot griddle is a finnicky exercise in not getting burned!

the weekend was over before I could get in! [In reply to] Can't Post

What happened?

Had a nice quiet weekend, marked mostly by a pleasant walk around a nearby lake. I have two quick projects this week but am taking Wednesday off to go tide-pooling with friends - lowest tides of the year!

Is this what's called a neap tide? [In reply to] Can't Post

Tide-pooling is always an adventure! There's a beach in the "inner arm" of the Cape where we'd go when the kids were little, the tide would go waaay out and we'd all go exploring the tide pools to find minnows, little crabs, etc.

May you have great weather for it!

That's the kicker [In reply to] Can't Post

B.G. said there's any number of pre-made pastries in NZ grocery stores, but they're few and far between here. Still, I think we could do it with regular pie crust pastry and/or puff pastry (if it's not the sweet kind).

I already did some research on Amazon, and some people said they use regular crust for the bottom, and puff pastry for the top. Oh, and one person said they put the crusts into a cold pie-maker and just cook it 3-4 minutes longer to help avoid burnt fingers.

You've inspired me! I'm going to get a pie maker and try it! Heart

If you count [In reply to] Can't Post

.. most of the restaurants and bars in old-town Boston as sightseeing, then yes, lol. Our project manager was young (though older than us), hip, and a bit of a partier. Plus, for some reason (that we never complained about), it was standard practice for the PMs in our firm to buy dinner and drinks every night for the people working for them.

Since we were in Charlestown, I did get to the Bunker Hill monument. And, I got to other cities in Massachusettes, Maine, and Vermont where they had branches. That's how I learned I'm allergic to Maine. Some kind of pollen there had me in a terrible state. But, I did get to go on a delivery route ride-along that went up into New Hampshire and Maine during the fall leaf-changing. It was gloriious because I wasn't driving and could enjoy the views.

When B.G. and I went to Boston we walked the entire Freedom Trail, which we both thoroughly enjoyed.
