Jackson's Original Scripts
|
Can't Post

Hi everyone! I haven't posted here in about 5 years, and the last time before that was probably around 2013 - but I've loved TheOneRing.net since the early 2000s and I just want to point that out! I love that this place still exists. As a historian and shameless/hungry Jackson fan deeply nostalgic for the time of the original Lord of the Rings movies, I figured I'd make a new post inquiring about whether or not anyone knows about the availability of early script drafts for the Jackson Middle-earth movies. These could include the 2-film Miramax drafts, which I believe were online at some point in the distant past, and the 2-film Hobbit movie scripts (which would be fascinating). But the real golden goose for me would be the shooting scripts of The Lord of the Rings films. I've seen them pop up every once in a while on movie memorabilia auction sites, but never anywhere else. They have the codename "Jamboree." From a film history POV, I'd be fascinated to see the progression of their scripts, before on-set rewrites and 2001--2003 pick-ups. I doubt they'll ever be readily available online, or if anyone who might have them will ever have the time to scan them all into PDFs for people like me, but I figure it can't hurt to throw it out there one more time. Thanks for reading, everyone! I'm sure I'm not alone in that I miss the time when these movies were at the top of people's minds and I'm desperate for something to scratch that itch for myself. So here I am with "just a fool's hope"

If you find it, let me know
"So which story do you prefer?" "The one with the tiger. That's the better story." "Thank you. And so it goes with God."

I've seen some portions of audition scripts on-line years ago. Here is a review of Miramax's original two film script: http://archives.theonering.net/features/script/ There were some fragments from the Miramax script on seatofkings.net (or seatofkings.com), now unfortunately defunct: ARAGORN (to Arwen): Your people raised me as one of their own. I cannot repay them by taking away their brightest jewel...their Evenstar. ARWEN: Did you come here to fill me with despair? It is the mortal trait I least admire. ARAGORN: I came here to try to make you understand...Arwen, you must return across the sea and dwell with your people in Valinor. It is the way it must be. ARWEN (frustrated): My life is with you, or I have no life! ARAGORN SHAKES HIS HEAD ARAGORN (quietly): No... ARWEN (frustrated): Oh, you stubborn....Man! **** GIMLI (to Nazgul): Pick on somebody yer own size, ye overstuffed buzzard! THROWS AXE WHICH STICKS IN NAZGUL'S HEAD **** GANDALF (being assisted downhill by Legolas): Blast! Why did the Valar send me here in this old manīs body? How did they think I could serve Middle-earth in this decrepit carcass?
****************************************** "Begone, foul dwimmerlaik, lord of carrion! Leave the dead in peace!" "Come not between the Nazgul and his prey! Or he will not slay thee in thy turn. He will bear thee away to the houses of lamentation, beyond all darkness, where thy flesh shall be devoured, and thy shrivelled mind be left naked to the Lidless Eye." "Do what you will; but I will hinder it, if I may." "Hinder me? Thou fool. No living man may hinder me!" "But no living man am I! I am Eowyn, daughter of Theodwyn!" "Er, really? My mother's name was Theodwyn, too!" "No way!" "Way!" "Wow! Let's stop fighting and be best friends!" "Cool!!" -Zack Snyder's The Return of the King
