It's a merry (or should that be Meriadoc?) month of May Fiesta!

The blackbirds are nesting in the hazel thickets, the gardens are full of spring flowers (in my part of the Shire, anyway) and the Fiesta Fairies at The Green Hobbit are stocking up the buffet with baked goods, savouries and a pile of freshly-picked salad leaves for the calorie-conscious! The bar's open; Wobbly Bob's drink of choice this week is Hobgoblin Session IPA. What's yours? Settle in with a glassful and a plateful and tell us about your week. Cheers!

And am now starting to pack for my trip to Colorado which begins TOMORROW! (Well, heading to the big city with the cat; he will stay with friends for the next six weeks while I travel here and there). I fly to Denver Monday, spent four days there seeing friends & family, and then I'm doing THIS: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u5kJbn4OSsM So next Friday, imagine me watching the Rockies go past my window! From Sacramento i'll take the Coast Starlight home again.

I'm heading off south on Monday to Palmerston North, where I'll have a bone marrow biopsy at their hospital. (It's not the greatest reason for a day off work, admittedly.) The results will determine which treatment they'll use to knock this tumour out of my lung, so fingers-crossed that my bone marrow turns out to be picture-perfect for a middle-aged Tolkien geek. We have sunshine today! (Yesterday was gloomy and wet.) Once I've finished breakfast I'll head out on my bike to enjoy it. Have a great weekend, everyone!

Glad to hear your flowers are doing well. We recently returned from a wonderful trip abroad, this time to China. We had great weather and a fantastic time! Quite surreal to say I've now been to the Great Wall. Coming back to real life has been a bit of a drag - naturally, work seemed to stay quiet while I was out and got chaotic once I returned. I guess I'll take that as a backhanded compliment! But thankfully the weekend approaches. We have a heatwave through the weekend - the first big one of the year always feels so darn hot! So it'll be evening walks and A/C and some reading in the meantime. And brunch for Mother's Day on Sunday. Wishing all the Mom's and motherly figures a Happy Mother's Day!

I hope it goes super-well. Glorious weather here, too, after some decidedly ropy days. It does make you appreciate them all the more.

Thanks for grabbing the keys, GH! :D I can definitely use some of your fare to replenish my internal batteries! What a week! One of those where you meet yourself coming and going :) Local daughter had lots of drama unfold day after day... but it is hopefully all resolved and promises a quieter week to come. The good weather has finally come to Michigan and looks like it wants to stay. So much greenery is awake that I'm on my second round of mowing the grass in one week. I think I'll grab a pink lemonade and get back to the outer chores ;) Thanks for taking such great care of us Greenwood Hobbit... and have a great weekend!

we still have good weather here. The ground'scrying out for rain! I've been out with a friend all day so far, to the grounds of Bolesworth Castle; there are many events held on the estate, but the woodland garden areas are only open two days a year and we've been lucky to enjoy shady woodland walks, great Cheshire scenery and total rhododendron overload! Colours you'd never dream of wearing together seem fine when it's rhododendrons...

Greetings, GH, and thank you for handling the bar serving as bar-mistress today! (And handling Wobbly Bob, who seems to be off snoring in a corner, too much Hobgoblin last night, eh?) We returned late last night from a get-together with all of hubby's sibs and spouses at his sister's house north of Boston - meaning, lots of traffic getting there, and getting home. But we had a wonderful time, poking through old family picture collections and deciding how to handle them all. And eating: the hosts made cheeseburger sliders, and we had a salad with baby spinach, onions, feta cheese, strawberries, and toasted pecans, and baked beans cooked in their grandmother's ceramic bean-pot. I brought zucchini chocolate cake, their Mom's recipe. It sounds like you had a lovely day for wandering around Bolesworth Castle! Aren't the "rhodies" gorgeous when in full bloom! One of my lilacs is suddenly bursting with flowers, probably thanks to the drenching rains of this past week. Hoping for some nice rains for you! Zucchini Chocolate Cake: In one bowl, sift together 2 1/2 cups flour, 4 Tbl cocoa powder, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, 1/2 tsp cloves, 1 tsp baking soda, 1/2 tsp baking powder. In another bowl, cream 1/2 cup soft butter, 1/2 cup vegetable oil, and 1 3/4 cups sugar. Beat in 2 eggs, 1 tsp vanilla, and 1/2 cup sour milk or buttermilk. Add in the dry ingredients, and 2 cups shredded zucchini, and 1/2 cup chocolate chips. Pour into a greased and floured 9" x 12 " x 2" pan; bake at 325F for about 45 minutes, until the cake is pulling away from the sides of the pan and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out "clean". No need to frost!

*waves hankie* ENJOY YOUR ADVENTURE(S)!!! :D Wow... you've waited a LONG time for this! I hope it's everything you wished for and that the weather is phenomenal :D But the golly-gee is the train ride. I love train excursions! I've longed for the train ride the length of NZ's north island again; but this Zephyr would absolutely fill the ticket if I don't get back to the Northern Explorer (NZ). This is stunning! I've bookmarked this link so I can go back again and again... sometimes with the sound off... though I'll miss the Nebraska references ;) Have a WONDERFUL TIME! We'll need pics and a report, fersher! :D

Girl... you've got this! You've been on my mind and in my prayers, and there's no doubt you're a warrior who total conquers every hurdle thrown at you! It will be so good to finally get some clear answers and a definitive path/attack plan to get this tumor GONE! I was a bone marrow donor for my sister years ago. It astounds me how medicine has discovered ways of making things happen!
You've got me hanging onto your bootstrap! *warm hug* Hang in there! :D
