Let's Celebrate Friday with Fiesta!

Greetings, friends, and welcome to another fun Fiesta Friday celebration! It's an uncharacteristically cloudy day here. So dark we have some lights on inside. The high is only supposed to be 52 (11 C), but as is normal for this crazy time of year, it will warm up to the low 80s (26 C) by Sunday, then back to mid-60s (18 C) next week. No complaints though. Cooler weather, (mostly) lots of sun, and no snow is right up my ally. In an effort to be a little more healthy, I bought a soda-stream to make what I like to call 'fuzzy water,' and a juicer because I like to drink it with fresh lemon and/or lime juice. The juicer is amazing. It leaves absolutely no pulp, behind just and empty white shell. No more wet fingers and the feeling that I'm throwing away 1/2 of the juice. Oh, and happy long Anzac weekend to the Kiwis. What are your plans for the 3-day weekend? What about those of us who only have 2 days to play? In honor of the Aussies and Kiwis, the buffet has meat pies, lamb roast pavlova, and brandy snaps and the blenders are whirring at the bar. So, dig in, drink up, and let us know how you're doing! *puts quarters on juke box* a song to brighten a cloudy, dark day! Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!!

I'm enjoying the laughs as well. Started my day with a gorgeous 4.5-mile hike up and down "Little Mountain," a park right in town that consists of a thousand-foot-high hill. Many trails loop about it, criss-crossing constantly, and I'd be totally lost if I didn't go with my friend who hikes it almost every day and always knows where she is. On the way down we passed a man who always seems to be there, just sitting and playing his guitar; turns out he is the caretaker for an ailing parent and this is his daily break. It is a gorgeous day today, so on the way home I stopped and bought more plants for my garden; I've bought a tower arrangement that allows for many plants, and I mostly got trailing plants good for hanging baskets, so that should be pretty. Also cilantro and I'll probably put some lettuce in a bit later. This weekend we'll be doing our favorite bayside trail, but otherwise I'm enjoying not doing much as I have a few days' break from editing projects. One book comes back Monday, as does the rain. It's nice enough for a lemonade! And a scone! Have a good weekend everyone!

My own batch turned out well this year. Very easy, and nice with a coffee. A much calmer week weather-wise than last week, though we do have a heavy rain warning for tomorrow. We were going to have a friend around, but I think we'd all prefer to stay home. We finished clearing the tomato beds, and I've sown broad beans in them as a winter crop. I'm planning to get some seeds sown (for indoor raising) this morning, a mix of flowers and veges. I should also pick a batch of aubergines for freezing, if I manage to get out there ahead of the rain. We had our Covid boosters this week, with no ill-effects beyond some mild tenderness at the site, and a bit of sleepiness. Good to see people turning up for their flu shots, too. Mr Kimi's currently making nutmeg cake, one of my favourites, so I'm looking forward to morning tea! Wishing everyone a pleasant weekend.

I've had a chocolate-mint flavoured one but not one with roast lamb - but what the heck, I'm up for anything. Not only was yesterday Anzac Day but with Easter Monday falling last week, we've had a three-day work week! I'm liking this! About half the workplace took those three days off so my email inbox was quiet for a change - such a blessing. It'll be a bit of a thump to go back to usual routine but I'm enjoying the long weekends. I have weeds that I should get to before the rain begins tonight. But yesterday we had the typical cold autumn start to the day that warmed up under a bright sun - and I spotted bees and a monarch butterfly having a good ol' feast on my flower-covered hedge. I'll need to cut it back eventually before winter but I'll keep the banquet open for the insects for a while yet. Have a great weekend, everyone!

and got away with just a bit of soreness in the spot with the Covid shot. Next week: the first of the shingles vaccines (the second comes eight weeks later). My immune system will be properly powered-up for winter.

as we wanted to be protected asap, but weren't due for the Covid one till just now. Very glad you only had the mild tenderness, too! Some people seem to have been hit fairly hard by this year's flu shot. Shingles sounds like a nasty business, and it's good to grab that protection, too. The shingles vaccine had no ill-effects, but I had a tetanus booster at the same time (we've always been careful to keep that one up-to-date, living rurally as we do, with our share of cuts and scrapes) - now that one does always seem to knock me about a bit. Vastly better than the alternative, though. Yes, your immune system will be fizzing!

Beautiful butterfly (and bee) on pretty flowers. And blue sky! Haven't seen one of those just lately. We have some tall salvias that could do with cutting back, but they're alive with bees and bumblebees, so we keep putting it off. The flowers are fizzling out, though, so can probably do that soon.

Just ahead of the rain. I've left a few very small ones that *might* yet manage to grow a little more before the colder weather sets in. They've been amazing this year. Just a small area of them, but they've borne and borne. And grown from seed, so the return on (modest) investment is very satisfying. They're small bushes, by the way, not vines. Maybe you have different varieties? The nutmeg cake stands on its own deliciousness :)

I'm due for COVID, best to get it before I go traveling! Got an appointment in an hour from now. I've had shingles, fortunately a very mild case (exactly 7 blisters) and yes, ow. I noticed it when I lay down and felt like I was being stabbed with needles! I've since had the two shots. My aunt had them near her eye which is very scary.

Apparently they flock to sheltered spots and huddle-up in trees, often in coastal areas. I've never seen a winter-gathering of monarchs, so god knows where the local ones go. https://thebutterflymusketeers.com/...-nz-wintering-spots/

Greetings, Altaira! Might I have a tall iced mocha, please? I was going to spend only the morning in the flower garden I share with my neighbor, clearing out the multitude of acorns the squirrels never took, when she came over and said, her son just got her a truckload of free mulch from the town's transfer station! So I've spent most of the day scattering mulch around. Her husband has a tiny mini front loader, and had fun hauling bucketfuls and dumping it as we directed, but we did the spreading. Did get rid of the acorns, too, and pulled the ones that were sprouting. So I'm ready for the the rains to come tomorrow to give me a rest! Here's a sun-shiny song for you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g5sbTHMP0Ig (no, I'm not going to do any more painting for a while! And you DON'T want me to clean out your basement - I can be ruthless! )

Michigan weather has literally been up and down day-by-day trade-offs for the entire week! But we faced it head on since this is Festival Week where the entire farm town nearby turns into one huge yard sale along with pancake & sausage community dinners with local maple syrup and a full-blown fair with rides on the high school grounds... complete with helicopter rides! There's a parade and an antique auto and tractor show. On Saturday, there are so many people trying to get here that the nearby freeway traffic is stopped at the exit as the 1/2 mile unbreakable line of cars to town inches forward. The Festival is officially 3 days long (last full weekend of April); but the sales go up 2 to 3 days before that! So I've been hitting the sales along with daughter and g'son. We got sunburn the first day, frozen the second day, and wind-blown frozen the third day. BUT I did get my elephant ear! :D
A kind of fry-cake sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar. No calories at all *urp* You can see how much bigger it is than the paper plate that's supposed to carry it. So the Festival ended yesterday (Saturday) in the mid-50s with wind and threat of rain. Today (Sunday) is high 60s, sunny, and just a touch of wind to keep the bug off while I work outside :) This sandwich hits the spot, fersher! Thanks Altaira! Have a great week everyone!
We have been there and back again. TIME Google Calendar
