I remember when we discussed Saruman

..in the 'LOTR Characters' series. Saruman is such a twisty character and has had so much of his own supply that it's hard to be sure how much he is deceivieng himslef, let alone anyone else.
But I think (can't find the post, unfortunately) that there were some significant doubts about Saruman's personality before he ever came to Middle-earth as a wizard. But maybe Eru is getting his man in place for some self-defeating evil - play that funky music Eru!
Or not.
