I hope your bike ride home [In reply to] Can't Post

is not very long, even though you'll warm up a little with the exercise!

I looked up the recipe for that goulash, that will be a very flavourful meal, enjoy! Smile

Oh no! [In reply to] Can't Post

That's frustrating, to scramble to get a piece done then forget it at home!

Are the daffodils popping up? And how was that Battle of the Bands?

I've no memory of that Doors song, now I'm feeling like doing a polka! Laugh

Happy Valentine's Day Sibbies! [In reply to] Can't Post

I hope everyone has had a lovely day :)

We had the second snowfall of the winter Wednesday/Thursday. Five inches! Mine was powdery like yours, Altaira. It was a beautiful morning... sunny, soft snow, no wind... perfect! It's only the 2nd time I've had to shovel yet this season! No complaints; but I'm hoping it doesn't mean a dry fire-hazardy summer.

I think I'll snag a bit of that seed cake to wash down my coffee ;)

No plans for the weekend... except to finally get one of my back rooms under control. It's been a catchall since my daughter stayed with me last spring. I'm finding all sorts of missing treasures :D

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend and week! Thanks for taking such great care of us, Altaira! :D

It's cool that hubby and you did the GMTA with candy :D

Your transcribing project for the Historical Society really does sound like fun. Although... the legal-ese slant would kind of be a challenge.

I hope you take some time to have some fun this weekend. Maybe go see the new "Captain America" movie! hmmmmmm.....

I suppose it must have been a slow week when [In reply to] Can't Post

my biggest news of the week is that I've grown a very large tomato :) Seriously, it was (past tense - we ate it last night) huge - it covered my whole hand, palm and fingers, and my hands are not particularly small.

Such bounty! I came in with a basket laden with tomatoes of various colours, aubergines and Lebanese cucumbers. I've been pickling and freezing, and we've been eating a *lot* of fresh veges. Also heaps of strawberries and blueberries, though they're slowing down now.

Barbecue tonight - tuna steaks with salad of aubergine and tomatoes. I hope the wind dies down a bit, though!

It's one of those dash-around days, so I'd better get dashing off. Wishing everyone a pleasant weekend.

All our snows so far this winter [In reply to] Can't Post

have also been the powdery type - as long as we get out within a couple of hours after they end, to shovel or plow them! Laugh It's not that great for snowball fights, but I have seen many front-yard snowmen. Smile

Organization is not easy to do! One must find a "home" for each item, or - *gasp* - commit to yard-sale/donate it. (I've got a room that's half unorganized family history, half items from my in-laws' house...) So what long-forgotten goodies have you been discovering?

What a bounty you're reaping! [In reply to] Can't Post

That tomato must have been juicy! Did you eat it plain, or lightly spiced?

What's your favorite veggies to pickle?

And it seems like it's been quite windy there for weeks now. Hasn't affected the garden, fortunately!

like Mum did when I was young. Didn't like them much then, but what's the betting I'll like them now, but they'll get stuck in my teeth! I wasn't 100% sure about offering that song, but it was the only one that came to mind.

I know, what a twit! [In reply to] Can't Post

Daffs are still in tight bud, waiting for some sunshine I think. Aren't we all! Battle of the Bands was (mostly) good; very varied, with lads and lasses aged 14-17ish. There was some confusion between acts as one lot unplugged and the next group tried to set things up, but generally it went well. The top three bands all performed their own material, rather than covers; good luck to them! My grandson's band was the most 'metallic' of the lot; they had good (growly screechy) fun!

re all those family items [In reply to] Can't Post

I'll reiterate the rule I followed after I ended up with so much stuff from the folks' house. It helped me let go of most of it:

Wise words. [In reply to] Can't Post

Our biggest problem will be organizing all the photos and photo albums they had, and deciding what to discard...there must be scads of duplicates in there.

We actually came away with very few household items - like a wastebasket, a lamp, a mug. Most of the large furniture was taken by great-grandkids, who are getting to the age of setting up places of their own!

When I cleared my parents' house [In reply to] Can't Post

it had been made easier because Mum had gone first, tenyears earlier. Dad wasn't much into hanging onto things, so quite a lot had already been pruned. There were things they'd liked but I didn't, so I took photos for the record and sent them on their way. I keep looking at my considerable collection of photos - actual and digital - and thinking I really ought to do something about them before they become my daughter's problem!

oh, the photos [In reply to] Can't Post

My parents had dozens of photo albums. Fortunately dad had bought a scanner, scanned in all his slides, and put them on CDs for us, so we didn't have all those to go through.

I made the family come over and go through the albums to see what was worth saving, but they got caught up in reminiscing and very little was accomplished. Eventually I told them "pick the albums or specific photos you want, anything left after today is being thrown out." But I still ended up doing most of the culling.

I took out his old screen that he used to project slides onto and unrolled it - it was so old it fell apart!

...when the papers or photos disintegrate when you pick them up, or old items fall apart.

Thanks! [In reply to] Can't Post

We ended up having to call an audible for dinner that night, as the place we went to was completely full for the rest of the night. They don't take reservations, so it was a slight bummer to find out they already had a full waitlist at that point. Oh well! We made the most of it elsewhere.

Thanks very much!
