Feista Friday Fun is Here!
|
Can't Post

Hello, fellow TORNsibs, and welcome to Fiesta Friday! Firstly, it seems the boards have slowed down again so I'll be sending another plea to Calisuri/Corvar for help. So, keep the faith! It's going to get to a balmy 50 f today (10 C), but this weekend we're finally going to get our 'real' bit of cold winter weather. A polar vortex is creeping down from Canada and will impact Colorado and many states to the north and east. By Monday, our high will be a not-so-balmy 8 f (-13 C). Thusly, I'll be running a bunch of errands today so I don't have to venture out again until the weather is a bit more civilized. Anyone else set to have vortex fun this weekend? We'd love to hear how you're doing, so pile up a plate (or two) at the buffet, and order a drink (or two) from the Fiesta bar, and let us know! *puts quarters on juke box* play us a song to keep warm by! Have a fabulous weekend, everyone!!

Winter Pareidolia...or a Visit by an Entwife?

The snow from last week's storm is finally disappearing. After the snowstorm, we looked out the window and observed a female face in the maple tree. Winter pareidolia, or a visit by an Entwife?
Don't mess with my favorite female elves.

was doing a jigsaw puzzle when I heard water pouring - went into the back hallway to see a torrent coming down from one of the can lights, and two other lights were also dripping - ran to garage, dumped out contents of tupperware bins I use for Christmas decor, got them under the drips and then every towel and spare sheet and blanket but the carpet was already soaked, THEN called our handyman, no answer, called upstairs, no answer, called upstairs next-door neighbor, she went over, yes my upstairs neighbor's water heater had burst (or as Elon Musk would said, suffered a Rapid Unscheduled Disassembly) and handyman was on his way. Two hours later the dripping has mostly stopped, still waiting on handyman to return with the industrial-strength water extractor and fans. No doubt the hallway ceiling will have to be removed and who knows what else. Have offers of places to stay with the cat, but still . . . I'd rather it hadn't happened. So a very large hot chocolate that is mostly Bailey's, please barkeep! I think I can skip the gym today . . . In other news, I heard out of the blue from my college/20s sweetie - haven't communicated in 40 years! His sister bought my book and they figured out (my last name is not the same) that it was ME and looked me up. We've been having quite the conversation, mostly "do you remember?" and sending photos back and forth, but at one point he said something that I took as permission to say "hey, dude, don't you talk about regrets to me. You made the decision and broke my heart!" And he came back with "yes, I was an idiot back then, I was blind to a lot of things, and I know I treated you badly, I;m surprised you would even talk to me, and I'm sorry." Well, that was closure! And since then we've been having a very nice exchange.

But not for us, though - here we're supposed to get into the 40F/5C temps tomorrow, with cold rain, not snow! But Sunday night it's supposed to get cold enough for us to get up to 3 inches of the fluffy white stuff. Could I have a hot chocolate with a dollop of Bailey's and some mini-mallows, please? I've been sorting out a couple boxes of old papers today, and lost track of the time. Getting rid of the receipts and warranties for things that are long gone, like small kitchen appliances and clocks and old carpeting...yeah, it had been several years since I tackled those boxes! And I located the instructions for the electric s'mores cooker we'd been given a couple of Christmases ago. It's just a unit that looks like a campfire, and has skewers for the marshmallows. Hm, I need to get the necessary ingredients - large marshmallows, graham crackers, chocolate bars. I wonder what other things do people put in their s'mores? Here's a song for warming up: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qoX6AKuYWL8

Eeeps! Lots going on! It sounds like you acted quickly to catch the rest of the water, and thank goodness you noticed as it sounds like your neighbor wasn't aware of the problem. Still, inconveniences to come are a bummer. One the water is extracted and the carpet is dry, can you stay there? That would soften the blow. How nice that you were contacted by your old flame, got past the elephant in the room, and are communicating again. The same thing happened to me years ago and we've maintained a nice, caring-in-a-friendly way relationship ever since. And, look at it this way, your weekend can pretty much only get better!

I'm in! How cute is that, that it looks like a campfire. you can turn the lights out and tell ghost stories while you eat your goodies. Oh, *those* boxes, haha. we have a whole two-drawer filing cabinet in the basement (behind some old luggage that needs to be donated), full of those old warranties and instructions. It's on my list, but *way* down in priority. Kudos to you for finding the box in the first place *and* tackling it. May the rest of your weekend be more exciting, and as warm as possible!

I'm cringing, imagining the water coming down and soaking lights, ceiling, and carpets! And the above-you resident coming home to a mess in their own condo. Fingers crossed the ceiling etc. repairs can be started ASAP. Amazing what unexpected benefits books can bring! You two had perfect closure of the old part of your lives, and can now go forward in good friendship. (I hope they enjoyed the book?)

I didn't get in further than my navel because by crikey the water was cold, but it still counts! And summer has finally arrived this week - I'm aiming to go for an actual swim on Sunday when the air temp is forecast for 24C/75F. My sister is visiting from the middle of the island this weekend so we're having a family dinner/cards night this evening at my brother's. And on Monday I'm back at work - no more summer holiday break. Ah well, it had to end sometime. Have a great weekend, everyone!

that they can be picked up by people who knew you forty years ago. And how lovely that you got to have that chat with your ex; man, if I could go back and whap my younger self upside the head, one or two things would have worked out quite differently. That's a massive pain about the water leak. But at least it's just water, and not a nastier liquid! (Gotta find the bright side.)

It always takes the water temp a good while to warm up as summer goes along, doesn't it, but you were able to get a bit of a dip in! Have fun with the game tonight (you always do! ), and may things be not hectic once back at work!

A friend told us that earlier this week, she had a plumber over to look at a leaky pipe upstairs, and when they walked down to her finished basement to check the pipes down there, she felt the carpeting squish beneath her stockinged feet...yep, septic system had backed up into the small bathroom down there.

I don't know how anyone in NZ gets in that water. But, as B.G. says, you get used to it. Instead of his mother telling the kids to get out of the pool when their fingers started getting really wrinkly, like my mom did, he says she'd tell them to get out of the water when they started turning blue, lol. Oh, good. One 'real' swim and a nice night of games with family before you have to go back to facing reality. May you enjoy every minute of it!!

At least when my sewer backs-up (three times in 25 years), it overflows outside - still disgusting, but no carpets involved! Man, I really feel for your friend.

That's what my mother always said when I complained about the cold as a kid. The trick is, you have to get nice and hot on the beach first so that you welcome the cold water, but it just wasn't hot enough earlier this week. This weekend should do the trick.

is 93, and yes she noticed - it flooded part of her place too - but she didn't know what to do. She just toddled down here (she walks with a walker and she has to go the long way round) to check on me. I assured her we'd all be fine. Miguel the Wonder Handyman is here running the extractor back and forth, and then we'll plug in the fans. I sleep with a white noise machine on so I don't anticipate being bothered. And I'll just make myself scarce when they come back to rip out the ceiling in the hallway and half-bathroom. This too shall pass . .

And usually we'd be standing there, our shoulders up to our ears shivering like anything, and protesting that no no we were fine! I actually did get hypothermia in the water once. We were bodysurfing just in our bathing suits, and we would have gotten out earlier except some seals came and were surfing with us, and it was just too much fun. Fortunately it was 80 F out - when I finally staggered out and realized I couldn't move my fingers, I just lay down in the hot sand and let the sun bake me.
