A Birthday Haiku I shared some years ago
In Honour of J.R.R. Tolkien's Birthday
Salutations, Sir;
Professor, husband, father;
He's inspired by life.
Builds a world with words
Visions filled his mind with Elves
Men, Wizards and Dwarves
But it's the smallest,
Children of the kindly West,
Hobbits rise from myth
Shake the foundation
Of powers long held by Kings,
Queens and a Dark Lord.
The meek inherits
The Middle-earth War of Rings;
Not knowing the way.
Their Quest is for all.
Kindreds bond in Fellowship;
Meeting friends and foes.
Fate on the knife's edge;
Everything sad comes untrue?
Endless Fellowship.
We have been there and back again.
