Welcome to this week's Fiesta Friday celebration!!

Welcome, everyone, to Fiesta Friday!! Winter is trying its best to settle in here with nighttime temps dropping below freezing pretty much every night. Then it warms up to the 70s f during the day, so this, like, Spring, is kind of a schizophrenic time of year. You go out in the morning wearing long pants and a sweater and end the day in shorts and a t-shirt. I started the week with a tummy bug which overlapped with being slammed with work from my one client. We had planned a window in December to do some meetings, and it turns out they had a surprise window this week. So, I madly prepared things I had planned to do at a leisurely pace over the next few weeks. The good news is that the meetings went very well, and now that work is done and under the bridge! If you haven't been to the Feedback board recently, check it out for an important message related to the forums. A bit of a speed bump that we'll work through together. So, what's been happening in your life? Any fun plans for the weekend? Grab a plate (or two) and have a pass at the buffet, then grab a drink (or two) from the Fiesta bar, and let us know! *puts quarters on juke box* know any schizophrenic songs? Haha! Have a fantastic weekend, everyone!!

Sounds you you got hit with a double-whammy this week - the bug, and the work! Does this mean you can now relax for all of December? I'll just have a mocha coffee, please. We had a pre-Thanksgiving gathering last night with 50 folks, of course I came home stuffed! And tonight is our music director's "performance party", another pot-luck dinner while her students and all of us in her smaller choirs and us keyboard ladies perform fun stuff. (Her home has a kitchen and dining area that are connected to her music studio, so it's easy to watch while munching.) Tomorrow I have another book discussion for yet another local history book, but this time we won't be going to the cemetery, which is just as well, we've been staying below 50F/10C here! And everyone - be sure to read Altaira's post on Feedback, your thoughts and ideas are needed! A schizophrenic song? Well, how about this one, we gals will be singing it tonight! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VKi0MV0ZVVo

Nothing much on the calendar this coming week

But I will be practicing a Japanese pumpkin cheesecake which I hope to master before Thanksgiving! Saw it on "Crime Scene Kitchen" * and thought I'd try it, sounds wonderfully light. Next week I'll be going to see "Red One" with friends. Haven't been to a movie in the theater for a couple of months, but we decided this one looked too much fun to watch on the little screen. We've been warm-for-the-time-of-year all through October and into November, but autumn has arrived! I put the down comforter on the bed last night (much to the delight of the cat, who loves how it envelopes him) because three blankets had become not quite enough. I still have blooming flowers though, no frost yet. We did get close last night! Also had the first of the November rain-and-windstorms, most of the leaves are gone from the deciduous trees. I've not been able to walk much for the last two months because of a torn hamstring ligament. Which I got by walking, believe it or not - keeping up with a friend who sets a VERY fast pace - we did a 5-miler and at 4.5 miles I suddenly went lame. Who knew? It's healing, but the stationary bike is the best option right now. Been riding the recliner ones at the gym and took my first spin class yesterday. I thought I might only stay for half the class this first time, but the decision was taken out of my hands when the lady next to me went white, managed to get off her bike, and then collapsed! She didn't pass completely out, and help arrived very quickly, but that was the end of class. I'll sign up again because my leg didn't bother me at all during or after. Off to the library now. I'll take an Angel Mist before I go, please! * Huge fun, if you haven't seen it. Teams of bakers examine the evidence in a staged kitchen to figure out what was baked there, then try to make it themselves. Sometimes everyone gets it right, and then the best bake wins. Sometimes few or none of them do, and then the ones who came closest win. Joel McHale hosts, maniacally. Schizophrenic song? Nothing better than "Twisted" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iisYw0epV_Q

Goodness! I almost lost track of all of that. I assume you're now squarely in the camp of retired people who say: I don't know how I had time to get anything done when I was working! Food, glorious food. Sounds like your gatherings could almost compete with the Fiesta buffet! Yum! I'll still have work in December. Because they just merged with another company, my client had to postpone our original schedule. We're still not caught up, but luckily these are very business-savvy, conscientious people, who got started on things they won't have to be audited on until at least 2026. So, I'm guessing periods of me being slammed will be few and far between. Have fun at your wonderful gatherings this weekend!

Nothing much on the calendar? Sounds like it will be a nice physical and mental break then. Oh, that show sounds fun! I'll have to look into it. We used to love the U.S. Master Chef until it got too commercially kitschy. We've also enjoyed the Australian Master Chefs. While enjoyable, it can be a little daunting to get through, having a bazillion episodes. Rest that leg and good luck with the cheesecake!

two heads are better than one! Love Joni Mitchell. Japanese pumpkin cheesecake? Does that mean it's a Japanese recipe, or uses a Japanese pumpkin? Ouch, hamstrings can do the most unthinkable things at the worst times, glad the healing is gradually improving. And nothing like a bit of excitement during a class, the poor gal, I hope you see her back in there again. Adding "Crime Scene Kitchen" to my list of shows-to-watch at some point, thanks! It's on the Food Channel?

I'm visiting TORN on my new phone

because my last one carked it - it suddenly wouldn't charge up or connect by cable (through that same port). We have a wonderful phone repair store who'll first check (for free) if they can fix it, but no dice, so I had to fork out for a new one. I do like having a new phone with a longer-lasting battery but setting it up was frustrating, and I'm one of those oddballs who thinks phones should last longer than four years. *grump* Unfortunately during the period of no working phone, I missed a message from my sister about a family meet-up (including meeting a grand-nephew for the first time). They've flown back to Oz now so no idea when I'll get another chance to see them. Meanwhile, I've almost finished my Christmas shopping. Just one more person to buy for. I like going into December with nothing major left to do so that I can relaaaaax. Have a great weekend, everyone!

Other than the expense, it is nice to have newer bells and whistles. I'm in the middle of transitioning to a new laptop, so I feel your pain. Finished Christmas shopping you say? Ok, now you're just plain showing off. Do you make it to Oz often? I can't remember you going there recently. Might be a good excuse? Happy, fun weekend!

is on Fox, actually. They're on the third season; I discovered the show this summer & was able to stream the past seasons easily for free. The one-liners from Joel are nonstop. It is a Japanese recipe and it uses a red kabocha squash, a/k/a a Japanese pumpkin. https://food52.com/...-recipe-with-pumpkin

Do you make it to Oz often? I've been just twice, to Perth and Melbourne. My nephew's hoping to move back to Taranaki later next year so that's when I'll probably get to catch up with him and his family.

which round here means it drops below freezing at night and hovers in single figures (C!) in the daytime. Vulnerable plants are already stowed in the greenhouse, to be on the safe side. As I grow older, my main fear is ice; I do rather pine for an occasional cosmetic dusting of snow, but I dread falling and breaking something. This morning I spent some time standing in light rain at the edge of a very soggy rugby pitch watching my younger grandson's school team being roundly thrashed by another school team. Not something I'd normally do, but my daughter was working and son-in-law had to take my older grandson to football. They don't have very relaxing weekends! I Googled 'schizophrenic songs' and it seems there's quite a selection! You learn something every day... None of them were familiar to me, so I'll spare you all my random and possibly dire choice. Instead, here's something a little unusual for me, but rather catchy I think! Sigrid - 'Mirror'. Have a good weekend, folks! (Edit: Squeee, I did a link!) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E7lr7pU9fYA

I hope your tummy troubles didn't last too long, Altaira :( I'll bet B.G. and you had all sorts of plans for the week only to have it completely unmade and remade while you just hung on for the ride! I'm glad it all settled down, but you had no idea what was coming next until it was done! *shudder* AND on top of that, you were trying to organize this announcement for us on the future of our Boards. *bows deeply* I hope your coming week is more cooperative. It's been a long week and the holidays are moving in fast! I've still been deer-proofing my young trees and plants. The weather keeps cramping my style; but it will all be done this weekend. We're in the middle of fire arm deer-hunting season... a 2-week free-for-all (Nov 15-30) out here in the forests and fields all over Michigan and very much around my house. I hear gunfire all around me, especially at sunrise and sundown when the deer move the most. I've had 2 windows in my house with bullet holes where, if I had been in the room, could have had an intense outcome. More dangerous is the deer being spooked by the activity and running full-speed into roads/freeways causing a lot of auto/truck collisions and often deaths. Most times they're unavoidable. So I'm careful when walking the backroads wearing bright colours and avoid driving at dawn/dusk when the action is the most intense! The good thing about the 2-weeks of hunting is that craft and flea market sales sprout up everywhere for the "Hunter Widows" left on our own to party in our own way ;) Great time to pick up Christmas gifts. Have a wonderful weekend everyone... and thanks for taking such great care of us, Altaira! STAY WELL!

Mercy! This past weeks was action-packed enough! I'm so sorry you're dealing with a TORn hamstring ligament. Doesn't it figure you got it from doing something you dearly love. Hopefully you'll be able to do some more walking before the winter weather moves completely in. How scary to have your fellow spinner overcome in class. I'm glad she was somewhere she'd get help and not at home; but wow! I hope you conquer your Japanese pumpkin cheesecake and your TORn ligament. Although that ligament really puts a cramp in everything you're trying to do. HANG IN THERE!

I have a cover of armour around mine, but we still have a love/hate relationship ;) Good on you for having your Christmas shopping done!!! *high five* Do you know what you're going to get for this last one? If they like Scrabble and desktop games, get them "Bananagram". I'm not a board game lover; but this one is my favourite. It's scrabble without the board and each person builds their own connecting words individually. It's lots of fun. :D

Sometimes you're down before you even know you're in trouble! But good on you for being there for your g'son's game.
