The first-look images show Cox's character Helm Hammerhand sitting alongside members of his family, including the newly introduced characters Héra (Gaia Wise), Haleth and Hama. Another up-close image of Héra shows her holding a sword.

A synopsis for the movie reads that Helm's daughter Héra "must summon the will to lead the resistance against a deadly enemy intent on their total destruction" as Rohan's situation grows more perilous. "I have to say, [Cox] being the father of a daughter also was really interesting given the dynamic at the heart of this film," Boyens adds of the Succession alum's performance. "That was really great."

The detail of the Throne in the Golden Hall matches the way it looked when Theoden sat in it. So they are definitely keeping the continuity there between this film and Jackson's six films.

It is also the first story from the Tolkien realm with a heroine leading the charge.

Kamiyama says, “In Japanese animation, it’s not uncommon for a female protagonist to be the main character, but it’s more rare in the live-action films made from The Lord of the Rings. Our film has a strong female lead in Héra, and our story is narrated by the noble Tolkien figure Éowyn, so women are very well represented. I think there are a lot of fans who really like Tolkien’s original work, so I hope those people will enjoy it. Making this movie has been a fun challenge.”
