have done some cat/house-sitting lately and rewatched Austenland multiple times. When I got home now I did dig up the Figwit documentary from my archives. SO much fun to rewatch :) and see how Bret McKenzie has evolved. But still manages to give the same vibes on screen :) But I really do miss the fun times we Tolkien fandom had in the beginning of the 2000s. Such a hoot to rewatch the Figwit documentary now - like 20 years on :) And remember the discussions here and elsewhere - not all of us could afford to travel back then ...

But I really do miss the fun times we Tolkien fandom had in the beginning of the 2000s. Nostalgia for the entire noughties of fandom has risen in me recently, when there was energy and excitement for fan-event after fan-event. I was thinking about Wellingmoot just recently, when a handful of Kiwi TORNsibs gathered and just went full Tolkien-geek for a weekend (and had a personal tour behind the scenes of Weta Workshop before those were a thing). Ah well - TORN abides, and that's no small thing. I'm sorry to hear about your employment struggles. Good luck with your job-hunting!

Started by Arwenelf and Induhvidual, if I remember rightly? I met a group of TORnsibs at the Edinburgh Fringe where FOTC were playing. Brett seemed bemused by all the attention! Happy days...

Not that i was particularly interested in Figwit, but I saw a newspaper article about this odd fandom that had cropped up around him, and it mentioned TORN. "Hmmm...", I thought, "sounds like a place I should maybe check out for 5 minutes, probably no more." 20 years later....
