Wow... That's just nasty. But apparently it's more nasty inside that car if they have that much trash floating around that they can readily grab and toss. If I did that, I'd be the one caught and cited for littering ;)

I love how your neighbour and you are collaborating on this new plantings along your property line. In a couple of months, all that work is really going to be so beautiful!
It looks like you should have good weather... which I hope holds up. Such a peaceful way to spend the day.
My 2 sisters, our brother, and our aunt all met up at the old country cemetery where my eldest sister, Dad and Mom are resting right near Grandma & Grandpa (Mom & Auntie's). It was a spontaneous gathering with my younger sister and I coming from 2-hr+ drives while the rest are pretty local. We had a ball and the first time we were all together in a couple of years.
Have Fun!!! :D And enjoy the extra sleep ;)

Story of the week here in Aotearoa New Zealand

was about a kiwi - the feathered variety. The nation was more united than I've seen us in quite some time. A nice article explaining something of how we feel about our weird and wonderful manu (birds). Rather appropriately, a kererū has recently discovered the laden guava tree just outside our kitchen, and he/she and I are engaged in friendly rivalry over gathering the crop. I almost have enough now to make a batch of guava jelly, at which point I'll leave the rest to my feathered friend.
I'm not much of a beer drinker, but in celebration of Towel Day, we generally have nuts and beer/beer-adjacent, and watch something Adams-related. This year it was cider for me, a very nice locally made one.
A little sunshine today, which is most welcome. A biting wind to go with it, though, so I'll probably enjoy the sunshine from the comfort of the conservatory.

are coming second in competition with a mold-like infestation that I've been battling for a few years now. At least I'm getting the occasional edible fruit this season - last year was a complete bust. I do love a fresh guava.
But to assuage my disappointment: tamarillos are back in season! *happy dance* I won't get any from my trees this year but I figuratively pounced on them at the supermarket. I've already snarfed one down - damn they taste good. 
I love that you have a kererū for company! I startled one once when it was on a bush next my garage - it took off so fast (and so loud) that I almost leapt out of my skin!
Thank goodness Paora's living conditions have improved, although it's disappointing that it took an uproar to get them sorted out.

is a little champion. It's planted in heavy soil, in an area that pools during each of the many (many) storms we've had so far this year and turns to concrete in warmer weather, and yet I've been gathering enough to fill a one-litre container every couple of days - far more than the several other trees put together.
Fortunately my kererū friend didn't discover it till recently! We do have what seems to be a resident population, and in various seasons they savage the kowhai, plum trees, etc, but they're so goofy and lovely and they were here first, so they bring far more joy than irritation.
Yes, it's disappointing that they're only just now looking at suitable accommodation for Paora. A lot more people have learned how we feel about our manu, especially the one we name ourselves after. Seeing kiwi in the wild on Rakiura was such an amazing gift.
I still have two tamarillos hanging on steadfastly. I think they may be ripe enough to go on cereal this week.

Yes, I think my kererū pal will be there until the last fruit has been snaffled. They're a chunky bird (especially at this time of year), and it's a small tree, so the whole tree waves about when he settles and takes off with his wonderful whooshing noisy flight.

also an example of how animals are still being handled without due consideration, either knowingly or, as it seems in this instance, through ignorance. I had to look up what a kereru was (sorry, can't do the accent); it's rather like a big cousin of our wood pigeon.They land on my fence with a definite thump and set the bird feeder swaying when they try to help themselves to seed instead of feeding on what falls to the ground. When startled they launch themselves into the air with a noisy clap of the wings - subtle they ain't! On the radio our national Poet Laureate once described the wood pigeon's call as 'My toe hurts, Betty!' - I'll get him for that one day... I can't unhear it.

Yes, our wood pigeons are chunky critters, with an unmistakable "whoop, whoop" of wings as they launch themselves. They're at their chunkiest going into winter, as they have a massive scoffing effort before the lean times. Guavas are among the few things fruiting just now, so I certainly don't begrudge them a share.
