Fellowship of Fans reports:
EXCLUSIVE: FellowshipofFans sources understand that Warner Bros. has been requested by Middle-earth Enterprises to amicably exit 'The Lord of the Rings' and 'Hobbit' franchises by the end of 2023, to pave the way for a new rights holder. These talks have only just begun. I don't know where The Embracer Group fits into all this or what it means for the Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim anime film.

unless you had plans for new products, e.g. films?
Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..." Dwarves: "Pretty rings..." Men: "Pretty rings..." Sauron: "Mine's better." "Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauron’s master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded beggar with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak. There's a rumor that Amazon wants to expand their Middle-earth franchise into feature films and possibly even games. If the Embracer Group can get the rights from Warner Bros. they can cut a new deal with Amazon, Netfilx, etc.

Fear and Loathing In Middle-earth

As much as I fear and loathe the idea of Amazon doing to the entirety of Middle-earth what it did with Rings of Power, a fractured franchise is worse. It was a problem with Star Trek, and perhaps a bigger problem and even more complex with the Tolkien Legendarium. The Tolkien Estate is part of the problem when they won't let anyone go as deep and true into it as Tolkien produced. I wonder and regret what Rings of Power could have been with full access. I'm all for a competitive economy and so forth, but haphazard issuance of franchise rights seems to predictably fracture the story as much as the collection of rights. Bring them under the control of one house, and let's see what happens. There's probably a contrary poem one can make from saying "and in the franchise, bind them!" about the rights, but there it is. I said it. ;)

in the future potential of Middle-earth movies, WB might just hold onto the rights that they have - unless they're bought out for a pretty penny, of course. It'll be interesting to see how this pans out.

I hope that if things change we get More lembas bread out of it!! More adaptations, more films and tv....I have loved watching fan movies over the years like The Hunt For Gollum... I remember being here in the late 90’s when PJ was dropping hints about casting...lots of controversy then and when FOTR came out....but now we love his interpretation!! I love ROP more after binging, and I look forward to future media... I wonder what fan reaction would have been to Del Toro’s version of The Hobbit??? Since it probably would have deviated from PJ’s vision...I think I would have enjoyed it...I remember chatting with Del Toro here on the message boards, we talked about Algernon Blackwood as one of his influences... Blackwood’s take on the native legend of The Wendigo inspired many scary campfire stories growing up, but he told me to read his short scary story The Willows....freaked me out!!!! So if I can handle Legolas in The Hobbit jumping on hobbit heads in barrels, I am ready for More Middle Earth!!!
