The Hobbit Chronicles Can't Post

I am currently making my way through these books by Weta. They look great in my collection as display pieces, which is a huge bonus. They are beautiful books and give great insight to the production of the 3 films.

My question is, does anyone know if Weta has made any books like these for The Lord of the Rings?

No… [In reply to] Can't Post

They have not, but the old ‘art of’ books do much the same job. Many fans have requested Weta do new ones for LOTR, so who knows.
However, the author Dan Falconer who has been at Weta since the early days, is now taking more of a back seat, part time role.

'I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.'
'So do all who live to see such times but that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.'

LotR [In reply to] Can't Post

The only "making-of" book I have for the Lord of the Rings films is The Lord of the Rings: Weapons and Warfare[/i[] by Chris Smith (with a foreword by Christopher Lee). I have gotten a fair amount of use out of the book.

There were a few sorta production diary type things [In reply to] Can't Post

They showed up quietly at bookstores around the time of the TRs. There was even one in a puzzle format—each page was a jigsaw puzzle… the quality was about as good as the booklet that comes with the Ultimate Edition Bluray UHD 4K box set that came out last year (mine has a typo on the Aragorn page: his section is titled “Sauron” not sure if everyone’s copy has that error).

Some of the 'guides' published for LOTR [In reply to] Can't Post

Hello again,

I'm sure this is not a complete collection of the books, guides, and the like published at the time of LOTR TRs and many of these came to me long after the movies left theatres (you can see a green resale shop sticker on one of them). There may have been hardcover and softcover versions (most of these are soft, the TT one hard). Like I said, they would show up in book stores without fanfare while the TRs were in theatres, and be gone just as quickly.

You will note one is called "The Making of the Movie Trilogy," and the "Photo Guide," and "Weapons and Warfare" cover all three LOTR movies.

EDIT sorry images follow in next posts

you might have to click on little blue and green square to get it to load. Not sure what I'm doing incorrectly.

referenced by Frodo Eyes above, there may be one of these for each movie.

The Middle-Earth From Script to Screen [In reply to] Can't Post

Is by Daniel Falconer and is a beautiful book that includes both trilogies. It serves more as a guide to the movies but has beautiful pictures and is beautiful alongside the Hobbit chronicles.

"Keen, heart-piercing was her song as the song of the lark that rises from the gates of night and pours its voice among the dying stars, seeing the sun behind the walls of the world; and the song of Lúthien released the bonds of winter, and the frozen waters spoke, and flowers sprang from the cold earth where her feet had passed."

Fellowship of the Ring Visual Companion [In reply to] Can't Post

In answer to the original question, in addition to all the "photo guides," "weapons and warfares," "arts," "jigsaws," and "making ofs," there appears to be a "visual companion" for each movie in the LOTR trilogy. Here's another one (hardcover):

Jude Fisher also wrote the Visual Companions for the Hobbit films. His LotR companions flew under my radar when they were published.

LOTR Official Movie Guide [In reply to] Can't Post

By Brian Sibley, published in 2001 by Harper Collins.

This was probably a first shot across the bow before anyone knew how well the movies would do, or how voracious fans would be for things like this.

The only one I have, guessing there is one for each movie in the trilogy. Great quality, by Jude Fisher!
