but the only whiff of anything hobbity was seeing the giant Gollum at the airport. I was at a conference and did nothing but sit in meetings and eat copious amounts of food for three days. Now I am home and tackling a mountain of washing, and thinking about beginning a detox. Happy weekend everybody.

I think those kitties thought they'd found new playmates - how patient they were! And the deer also - just amazing. It's too bad your camera was not nearby, but that's one time you wouldn't want to move at all, for fear of frightening the deer! Glad the garter snake got away. Those are good to have around the yard!

if you "ignored" the next birthday event? That is, do absolutely no planning or anything - and see if anyone notices when the day comes! That's interesting about the Baltimore orioles, they started showing up in our area also this year, for the first time. Two males were squabbling in the grass in our backyard - very strange!

Your own, or from several different authors? And is there a common "theme" to them?

love to spend a few days in Wellie right now. Somehow it would be quite a buzz just to be there while filming is going on, even if you don't actually get any hobbity whiffs. Happy weekend, Starling, and good luck conquering your laundry mountain. We have one of those pretty much daily. *sigh*

We're doing the anthology for a charity, the International Fund for Animal Welfare. The stories themselves vary widely by tone/genre, but each one of them involves a dog or cat. It's a completely do-it-yourself project (we don't need no stinking publishers! ) and somehow I volunteered to format the files, yikes! We're hoping to have electronic and print versions by the end of June. Title: The Sound and the Furry. Thanks for asking

*grabs 2-litre bottle of diet coke, ads a shot of rum, and runs off giggling* Was a time when I'd have grabbed the bottle of rum and added a shot of diet coke... *sigh* I run on caffeine now. Sounds like you've got some nice family time coming up, gramma! I love road trips, especially when they're through scenic country. Good on your grandson for making it through high school! We're on the cusp of winter here. Some days are winter, some days -- like today -- are a pleasant and sunny late autumn -- but possible snow, at least at elevations a little above sea level, is forecast for Tuesday! Brrrrrr. Everything's really really soggy from all the rain we've had -- I wish we could go back to the drought. I like droughts better than monsoons! NZ Toddler is in love with "Blunt the Knives". We have to listen to it on endless repeat in the car. She can also say "But a Nie", which is her approximation of "Blunt the Knives". And this morning, after she told me about "But a Nie" she had more to say about Thorin, in a tree, singing La La La, and something about a key to open a door. And I've discovered the BBC Robin Hood series, which had Richard Armitage as Sir Guy of Gisborne. Can I just say that RA broodily strutting around in black leather and eyeliner is nearly as pleasant to watch as Thorin? I'm hooked. NZS told me Sir Guy is the male equivalent of a dumb blonde; I replied that if you look that good in black leather pants, you can be as dumb as you want. I've made it -- several times over -- through Series 1 and am expecting Series 2 in the mail any day. Can't wait! Happy weekend everyone!

I said, a few weeks ago, that we came home from shopping - driving by the lake at dusk - and the sky was full of swooping birds I thought might be nighthawks. We went down to the lake at that time the next night but saw no sign of them. Well, tonight coming home, we saw them again and I made the Mister drive around the lake till we could see them in a place where we could pull over. Although they weren't calling (they have a very distinctive call), I'm now certain they were nighthawks so that is one more bird for my 2013 bird list!

I did consider sneaking out of the 3 hour board meeting and heading to the Weta cave, but I would have had to crawl under the table and *may* have drawn attention to myself. If only I'd had some magical jewellery to put on, or maybe one of those nice cloaks.

Ah yes, the black leather Actually, Sir Guy gets more complex and more gorgeous as series 1 and then 2 go on IMHO. Marian is such a silly girl to prefer Robin! I thought the series as a whole was pretty meh, but RA was the star! In fact- I took to recording the programme and just fast forwarding to the RA bits- I still could follow the rest of the plot pretty well The final series, sadly, they gave him a dodgy wig, because he'd had to have his hair v short for Spooks/MI5, and did away with the black leather (see the picture on Gramma's post) but even so.... Enjoy Ro! PS In series 2, he divests himself of the black leather more than once- I'm saying no more!

It sounds like they were playing a game of "Lions of the Savannah". And I'm glad that somebody else has noticed the "sphinx pose" that cats do- a lot of people look at me blankly when I mention my cat doing this. They may not be as loyal as dogs, but I think cats have such interesting personality traits!

and he does a lot of sword fighting Not sure why you're blushing though? Re buying the series- I would have done- but have seen them all a number of times (well the RA scenes anyway) +Spoilers+ Tissues needed for ends of all 3 series- if you're a GofG/RA fan anyway (what else?)

So true, the endings seem to go with the dramatic territory. As far as the blushing this whole fangirl thing has me in a state of cognitive dissonance! A very bizarre experience all around.

I'm late. Yesterday I visited the dog park with a friend, her dog, my granddaughter & my dog. Then we took a nice walk in the woods and then went to the playground. Today I spent a good part of the day at the dog park and tomorrow our community pool is having a party. I'm taking my granddaughter but I'm not sure if I'll be getting in the pool-it's only going to be in the seventies. Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend!

you really should watch this (again, if you've already seen it!). I think the first series was 2006 and the third was 2010, or so. RA's performance is fantastic, especially if you've got a bit of a taste for the bad guys. It also stars Jonas Armstrong as Robin, Keith Allen as the Sheriff, and Lucy Griffiths as Maid Marian.

I've been watching Sherlock dubbed in Japanese- oh, the hilarity. We're going to a friend's house for a cookout tomorrow. Guess I'll have to make something for it, lol.
